Phylloscopus and Hippolais warblers of different size were equally represented across habitat types; body mass did not vary with habitat openness (Pear- son r = -0.!, P = 0.6).
In the present study, we controlled for phylogeny and examined the effects of body mass and habitat structure on variation in song structure of 30 taxa of Phylloscopus and Hippolais warblers, which are a closely related group of birds that occupy a wide variety of habitats and show high variation in vocalizations.

Olivaceous Warbler - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Olivaceous Warbler, Hippolais pallida, is an Old World warbler in the tree warbler genus Hippolais.
As a result of modern taxonomic developments, it is now usually considered to be two species, Western Olivaceous Warbler, Hippolais pallida, and Eastern Olivaceous Warbler, Hippolais opaca.
These small passerine birds are found in dry open country, including cultivation, with bushes or some trees.

 Identificacion
In September 2002 the BOU (British Ornithologist's Union) recommended that the Olivaceous Warbler (hippolais pallida) should be splitted in two different species, bearing in mind, among other reasons, its geographical distribution.
The Melodious Warbler (hippolais polyglotta) is the most widespread hippolais warbler in Spain, showing grayish-green upperparts and wings, and lack of the typical pale wing panel of Icterine Warbler (hippolais icterina).
The most streaking features to separate these two hippolais are the shape and bill pattern, in Olivaceous very pale and yellowish seen from below, and much more longer and wide, which continues towards a forehead and crown flater than in Melodious, giving an expression of "big-nose".

 Upcher's Warbler (Hippolais languida), Israel
In the Southern Arava the species is so rare that Shirihai (1996) listed each individual spring record in 'The Birds of Israel', rather than simply calling it a scarce passage migrant.
Variation within the different forms of Olivaceous Warbler (Hippolais pallida) can produce some bewildering examples of birds that really can resemble an Upcher's Warbler, especially if it's a bird with exaggerated tail movements.
Careful attention to the exact tail movements, general proportions, and size comparisons where appropriate, can all be used to aid a successful identification.

It was taken in the desert near Qatbit, Oman; no voice it was 44deg in the shade and it took everything to breath, I believe it to be Upcher's Warbler (Hippolais Languida) but Olivaceous (Hippolais Pallidais) is also a distinct possibility as they are both about at the time of year - mid april.
The old Olivaceous Warbler - Hippolais pallida was split on the Clement's and the SM to Western Olivaceous Warbler - Hippolais opaca (monotypic) and Eastern Olivaceous Warbler - Hippolais pallida with subspecies elaeica, pallida, reiseri and laeneni.
But, the much more authoritative Howard and Moore by virtue of the fact that some species treated in old Hippolais are more related to Acrocephalus than some of the other members of old Hippolais have place Booted Warbler, Syke's Warbler and Olivaceous Warbler into new genus Iduna.

This morning at least five were present in Neot Semadar's western fields and orchards, and this evening I found one in Ketura's experimental gardens.
All of these were feeding on, or close to the ground, quite different behaviour to that of the many bush dwelling Eastern Olivaceous Warblers (Hippolais pallida) feeding close by.

We discuss the evidence for unidirectional genetic introgression from the Melodious into the Icterine Warbler population as a likely explanation for this observed situation.

OSME - Upcher's Warbler in Egypt
Goodman & Meininger (1989) did not admit the species to the Egyptian list, since the only evidence for its occurrence was an unsubstantiated statement by Hovel (1987) that 'Upcher's Warbler is a scarce passage visitor to Sinai'.
Size and structure A large hippolais; much larger than Bonelli's Warbler and marginally bigger than Lesser Whitethroat, with a steep forehead and crown peaking just behind the eye.
Stocky structure similar to a sylvia, but overall appearance was typically hippolais in character, especially the elongated head and bill.

A grey-and-white' Melodious Warbler - if such birds truly occur - could, due to the close structural similarity between the species, present a serious risk of confusion, but that species lacks any conspicuous white on the outer tail feathers.

The Upcher's Warbler, (Hippolais languida), is an Old World warbler in the tree warbler genus Hippolais.
