  Hiram Abiff
According to Masonic mythology, Hiram Abiff was the master of the construction of King Solomon's Temple.
Hiram Abiff is assumed by some to have been the same person as King Hiram I of Tyre, who is given credit in the Bible itself for having sent building materials and men for the construction of the Temple.
Hiram Abiff's death is commemorated in various Masonic rituals.

 The Story of Hiram Abiff
Hiram, like many other notable men in the history of the world, was distinguished in the manner of his death as that is set forth in the legend, and the dramatic circumstances attending the tragedy are what give amplitude to his biography.
The clear points that emerge are that Hiram was of mixed race, the son of a brassworker, and a man so high in his profession as to have secured the patronage of his King, and to have been deemed worthy to uphold the reputation of his country.
Hiram was raised by the Lion's grip, and it is by that grip that the Freemason is raised from a figurative death to a reunion with the companions of his former toil.

 The Temple Legend
Hiram also descended from the race of Cain, and he was the inheritor of all that had been learned by the others of his line in technology and art.
Hiram was thus initiated into the Mystery of Fire and into the secret of bronze casting, receiving from Tubal-Cain a hammer and a Golden Triangle which he was able to carry with him as a pendant round his neck.
Hiram was to be the first to quit Jerusalem; the queen, impatient to rejoin him in Arabia, was to elude the vigilance of the king, which she accomplished by withdrawing from his finger, while he was overcome with wine, the ring wherewith she had plighted her troth to him.

 Masonic Symbolism
According to the Masonic legend, Hiram Abiff was a man of Tyre, the son of a widow, and the chief architect of the Temple built by King Solomon.
Hiram Abiff, Masonry teaches, was the only one on Earth who knew "the secrets of a Master Mason," including the most important secret of all, the "Grand Masonic Word," the name of God (the "ineffable name").
Thus, it seems clear, the Hiram Abiff of Freemasonry is not an historical character and certainly not a biblical one.

 Who is Hiram Abiff?
Although these men know that the name Hiram Abiff would be considered a valid answer to the question by other men with whom they privately associate in Masonic Lodges, they would be reluctant to mention the name of Hiram in church.
Hiram explains that this is neither the time, nor the place; the secrets can only be revealed in the presence of three, King Solomon, Hiram the King of Tyre and myself.
In Masonic ritual, Hiram Abiff is raised from a "dead level" to a "living perpendicular." Quite a number of Masons have claimed that Hiram Abiff was not resurrected from the grave near Mt. Moriah, but rather his body was exhumed and reburied in the temple.

Phoenicia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the Bible, king Hiram I of Tyre is mentioned as co-operating with Solomon in mounting an expedition on the Red Sea and on building the temple.
Early relations between Israelites and the Canaanites were cordial: Hiram of Tyre, a Phoenician by modern assessment, furnished architects, workmen and cedar timbers for the temple of his ally Solomon at Jerusalem.
Later, reforming prophets railed against the practice of drawing royal wives from among foreigners: Elijah execrated Jezebel, the princess from Tyre who became a consort of King Ahab and introduced the worship of her gods.

What emerges from their research is a new theory of the identity of the mysterious “Hiram Abiff” who is known to Masons as the architect of King Solomon’s temple, along with some far-reaching implications.
According to these authors, Hiram Abiff was not Solomon’s architect as established in Masonic lore; he was, rather, a person who lived 500 years before the son of King David began building the first Jewish temple in Jeruselem.
The authors discovered that Sequenenre Tao had been killed in exactly the manner attributed to Hiram Abiff, and they theorize that he was killed by representatives of the Hyksos leader, who ruled, but was not pharaoh.
