The Wado-Ryu style of Karate was founded by Hironori Ohtsuka in the early 20th century and is a synthesis of Okinawan Karate-do and Japanese Budo arts.
Hironori Ohtsuka was a Jujitsu master when he first began learing Karate from Karate giants such as Gichin Funakoshi, Kenwa Mabuni and Choki Motobu.

It is said that it was founded by Eiichi Eriguchi sensei in 1981, but in fact Eriguchi was a student of Hironori Ohtsuka sensei, who taught him the karatestyle that he founded in 1938, Wadoryu and changed in 1967 into Wadokai.
