Even though it was his natural good looks that got him his first job, it was Abe's impecipal sense of humor that allowed him to make the transition to an actor as he appeared frequently on the long running TV series Waratte Iitomo.

Abe Hiroshi plays an architect Kuwano Shunsuke who is unable to get married although he is past the 40-mark.
Model-turned-actor Hiroshi Abe is the perfect person to play the title character in Fuji TV's summertime drama series "Kekkon Dekinai Otoko (The Man Who Couldn't Marry)" (Tuesday, 10:15 p.m.).
Abe's classic good looks contrast starkly with his comic awkwardness, making him one of those rare hybrids: the dreamy leading man who can succeed as a character actor.

His most notable feature is probably his height because there aren't (or close to none) very much Japanese actors who are close to his heightin the industry.
His sense of humor got him noticed as more than just a pretty face, and he was soon making regular appearances on popular Fuji TV noontime variety show "Waratte Iitomo", in the "cool guys" section.
It was a bumpy start, but he showed a special talent for comedic roles, and he was soon one of Japan's leading actors.

 Yamato Takeru (Review)
It’s not uncommon, for example, to have actors standing on screen stiffly as you are unsure if they are simply waiting for the director to yell “cut” or if they are trying to portray some kind of emotion and failing at it.
Now Takashima was never a really great actor, as he was often renowned more for his natural good looks then his expertise at his craft; however, his portrayal here almost makes it seem like his uninteresting character in Gunhed (1989) was bursting with emotion in contrast.
His character isn’t given much to do, as he shows up during the final act and disappears for the climax, yet he does well with what he was given, as he stares down the audience and anyone else in his scenes while adding a nice sense of menace to his line readings.

Still, the actors are sexy, the fight scenes are splashy (if a little confusing), and the movie never wastes too much time getting from one action sequence to the next.
Among the actors from Japanese side, Toru Nakamura (`Purple Butterfly') would be the most famous, but his role is sadly a very small one.
Equally small are the roles of cute Japanese idol turned actor Kumiko Endo and actor Hiroshi Abe with his trademark eccentric acting.

[KFCC] Orichi The Eight Headed Dragon Review
The whole ordeal is followed by an underwater rescue that is conveyed by having bubbles in front of the camera while the actors do a pitiful job of fake swimming.
In a supposed adventure story such as this, it is absolutely vital to feel some wee connection to the hero, or at least like him a little.
Unfortunately, he seems more like an extra that got booted up to lead role when a real actor became ill. He is seemingly devoid of any believable compassion, and the love story between him and the priestess was pretty sloppy and unconvincing.

He directs his actors to speak as fast as humanly possible, then films their motormouthed monologues as distractingly as possible, so that it becomes completely impossible to figure out what the hell Kyogokudo is on about.
Finally Abe Hiroshi manages to sell his character's eccentric humor despite having all of his interesting scenes removed in service of speeding the plot along.
The plot does indeed speed along, but so recklessly that they frequently have to stop, backtrack, and explain something that happened a good deal earlier because it turned out to be important after all.

Yuki (Naomi Nishidi), a local journalist trying to get a close-up shot of Godzilla, along with Shinoda (Takehiro Murata) and his kid daughter (Mayu Sizuki), form a guerilla research group called the GPN (Godzilla Prediction Network).
They are the "good guys," making the CCI (Crisis Control Intelligence), headed up by a hilariously nihilistic Katagiri (Hiroshi Abe), the "bad guys." Takao Okawara's GODZILLA 2000 is perfectly consistent with its predecessors: the monsters are nasty and ferocious and they wipe out every skyscraper in Tokyo, literally leveling the city.
The film brings back all the old tricks, with special effects akin to the Godzilla films of yore and plenty of monster mania.

The cast does a decent job and is convincing enough to make the audience believe the peril the Earth faces.
There's no point in singling out a particular actor or actress, however, since no one manages to shine.
That doesn't mean they perform poorly, quite the opposite; but when the entire cast plays their parts with equal conviction, it's only right to appreciate them in their entirety.

Unfortunately for salary man Kobayashi and his loving family, Aoyama’s demise takes place during one of his performances, just after Kobayashi has been hypnotised into believing that he’s a bird.
It’s good to see Tadanobu Asano too, in my opinion the finest contemporary Japanese actor of our generation, lending his talents to another genre piece, but here he’s rather wasted in a largely non-speaking role.
The acting plaudits in this picture deserve to go to Ittoku Kishibe who as Kobayashi gives a strangely affective, gentle portrayal of the man who thinks he’s a bird, cooing and flapping his arms, staring longingly at the skies outside.
