Historical Objectivism has been most frequently and effectively applied to correcting the historical record relative to wars, because truth is always the first war casualty, the emotional disturbances and distortions in historical writing are greatest in wartime, and both the need and the material for correcting historical myths are most evident in connection with wars.
This was because many wished to use the historical studies of the causes of the War as the basis for a revision of the Treaty of Versailles, which had been based on a complete acceptance of the theory of sole German-Austrian responsibility for the outbreak of the European War in early August, 1914.
Historical Objectivist scholars proved that the British and French had for some time been considering the invasion of Belgium in the event of a European war, and that English officers had travelled over Belgium carefully surveying the terrain against this contingency.

The approach to the legendary history of early Rome taken by Matthew Fox in Roman Historical Myths is diametrically opposed to Wiseman's brilliant (if not altogether convincing) unravelling of the development of the figure of Remus within the political and social context of republican Rome.
The approach itself is promising and the subject is important: as F. realizes, the end of the first century BCE was a time when Romans looked back at their distant past as a tool for understanding the political and social crises of their own day.
