This is the history of the State of Alabama, in the United States of America.
The English, too, claimed the region north of the Gulf of Mexico, and the territory of modern Alabama was included in the province of Carolina, granted by Charles II of England to certain of his favorites by the charters of 1663 and 1665.

Alabama is situated between 30° 17' and 35° N. Lat., and 7° 58' and 11° 26' W. long.
The constitution of the state of Alabama was adopted by a convention which met at Huntsville in July, 1819, in pursuance of an act of congress passed in the month of March preceding.
When Alabama was admitted into the union, in 1819, the government of the United States granted to the state, on certain conditions, one section or thirty-sixth part of every township, for the support of schools, and two townships for the establishment of an university.

 The University of Alabama, Brief History
In 1818, the federal government authorized Alabama Territory to set aside a township for the establishment of a "seminary of learning." Alabama was admitted to the Union on March 2, 1819, and a second township added to the grant.
It was one of the first five in the nation to do so and one of the few to have maintained accreditation continuously since national accreditation began in 1936.
In March, the Alabama Legislature decreed that, after thirty years of student protest, the military system of organization at the University be abandoned.

Historical records indicate the first earthquake of consequence in Alabama shook residents of Sumter and Marengo Counties, located in the western part of the State, on February 4, 1886.
Additional earthquakes (intensity V category) listed for this State that were minor and caused no damage centered near Rosemary, western Alabama, in June 1917; in the Scottsboro area northeast of Huntsville in June 1927; at Cullman, northern Alabama, in May 1931; and in the Anniston area in May 1939.

I have perused the manuscript history of the Creeks by Stiggins, a half-breed, who also received some particulars of the route of De Soto during his boyhood from the lips of the oldest Indians.

 Wilcox' Brigade
The 8th Alabama Infantry Regiment was the first Alabama command that enlisted "for the war." It was organized by the War Department at Richmond on 10 June 1861, with men recruited from Butler, Coosa, Dallas, Mobile, and Perry counties.
The 9th Alabama Infantry Regiment was organized at Richmond, Virginia, the latter part of May 1861, and contained men from Butler, Calhoun, Greene, Jackson, Lauderdale, Limestone, Marshall, Mobile, Morgan, and Sumter counties.
Placed in Cadmus Wilcox' Brigade, Anderson's Division (with the 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th Alabama regiments) it was on the line of the Rappahannock during the winter of 1862-63 and was in line of battle on the heights when Burnside was repulsed at Fredericksburg.
