Dream Theater, along with counterparts Queensrÿche and Fates Warning, are credited with reviving progressive music into critical and commercial success in the late '80s and early 1990s after the genre had spent almost a decade in decline.
Dream Theater are seen as a major pioneer of that genre despite forming slightly later than both Queensrÿche and Fates Warning, and they are responsible for triggering a sharp incline in the number of progressive metal bands being formed through the '90s and 2000s.
Dream Theater was formed in 1986 by guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung and drummer Mike Portnoy while studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

DREAM THEATER seems to be one of those bands whose works you either love or you hate, and this album I definitely love.
Scarred is the epic of the album, and it's probably the weakest epic Dream Theater has done (next to Honor Thy Father), a pretty bland rhythm and melody is augmented with pretty weak lyrics and vocals.
Dream Theater’s third studio album, released in 1994 and is sadly, becomes the last album recorded with an amazing keyboard player, Kevin Moore.

In the twenty years since their inception, they have become one of the most commercially successful progressive bands since the height of progressive rock in the mid-1970s, despite being relatively unknown in mainstream pop and mainstream rock circles.
Once I had acquired all of the album releases by Dream Theater, I realised that I was slowly acquiring other things.

Following a suggestion from mikes father they called themselves DREAM THEATER, after the name of a movie house in Monteray, California.
