Winston Churchill alluded to another philosophy of history when he quipped, "History will be kind to me for I intend to write it." Churchill's joking comment is a variant of the famous: "History is written by the victors." In this view, the winners in human conflicts get to put their own spin on historic events.
Military History: The study of warfare and wars in history and what is sometimes considered to be a sub-branch of military history, Naval History.

 Yale History Department
History has been taught at Yale since President Thomas Clap introduced specifically historical courses in the 1760s, and the Department of History has existed since 1919, when Yale first divided its faculty into academic departments.
History was a popular course of study when majors first were introduced after World War I, and it became the largest major in the 1950s.
About 150 History graduate students currently are in residence, and the Department accepts between 20 and 25 new students into its graduate programs each year.

While a history major at New Paltz can build a solid base for the graduate study of history, most Liberal Arts history majors do not pursue graduate degrees in history, though some do continue in the MAT (Masters of Arts in Teaching) program offered by the College.
