Hobart joined the escort on 1st Feb 1940 for the Colombo to Suez leg of the first troop convoy from Australia and New Zealand to the Middle East.
On 15th Aug Hobart led the force evacuating Empire troops from Berbera, and on the 19th she shelled the port installations as the Italians entered the town.
At dawn on the 28th, Hobart and her outdated companions passed through the Sunda Strait - the same waters in which her sister Perth would be sunk at the end of the day, and already containing the litter and wreckage of battle.

Hobart, upon being elected assistant Minister of Trinity Church in 1801, looked to the re-establishing of Episcopalian prosperity, and of those edifices worthy of his energy was Columbia College.
In 1809 Hobart and a Trustee Committee headed by Rufus King were charged with the task of preparing "An Inquiry Into the State of the College." The findings were simply that President Benjamin Moore was inept at managing the College, and treated it as merely an honorary position.
An Epsicopal Bishop, he founded Hobart College in 1822 which he, "conceived to be an outpost for civilized and learned behaviour on what was then the western fringes of European settlement." He then went on to found GTS in 1826.

The Hobart Football Club was formed as a district football club on the 19th December 1944 and participated as one of the founding members of the Tasmanian Football League until the formation of the Statewide League in 1986 also becoming an inaugural member of that competition.
Hobart may have only spent 53 seasons in the TFL but their success in winning 9 premierships from 15 grand finals during that time represents the commendable return of a flag every 5.9 years, a record which few clubs anywhere can match.
Hobart's 1960 premiership victory was emulated on each of the club's next 4 grand final appearances, the last of which, in 1980, coincided with a memorable victory over Clarence in the grand final of the first ever statewide premiership, which was played as an adjunct to the TFL's, NTFA's and NWFU's regular competitions.

Hobart College was founded in 1822 by Episcopal Bishop John Henry Hobart, who conceived it to be an outpost for civilized and learned behavior on what was then the western fringes of European settlement.
Bishop Hobart had a plan to reopen the Academy at a new location, raise a public subscription for the construction of a stone building, and elevate the school to college status.
A new chapter in the history of the Colleges opened with the dawn of the 20th century and the founding of William Smith College.

Despite this rejection the Hobart Electric Tramway Company was formed by the London entrepreneurs who then built a model tramway in the Hobart Town Hall and opened it to the public in an attempt to win support for the silent clean power.
The Hobart Electric Tramways had the distinction of being the first complete electric tramway system to be established in the Southern Hemisphere, although short unsuccessful lines had been opened in Victoria and New South Wales in 1889 and 1890.
The system became the Hobart Municipal Tramways and the Council launched an expansion programme that was to double the size of the network within ten years.

The history of the estate begins in 1877 when John McCullough, a Scottish immigrant who made a fortune in the wool industry, constructed a two-story fieldstone castle with two octagonal turrets facing the valley to the East.
Hobart, the widow of former Vice President Garret A. Hobart, who died in office in 1899, deeded the property to her son, Garret, Jr., as a Christmas gift that year.
Hobart Jr.'s widow, Caroline Frye Hobart, sold the entire estate to the state of New Jersey in 1948 for $200,000, and Ailsa Farms became the new home of the University, then known as Paterson State Teachers' College.

In 1886 relations were established with Hobart College by which the use of the facilities of the college, including the chapel and the library, and instruction from members of the College Faculty were secured to students connected with the Divinity School.

The nature of South Hobart prior to colonisation in 1804 is subject to certain conjecture.
Land was granted to colonists as early as 1806, and it is certain that the district was used for basic subsistence (for example: hunting, wood gathering, etc,) but also for recreational purposes.

Hobart Coaches started as a subsiduary company of Hazell Brothers with services starting in the Kingston and Blackmans Bay, The Channel, Huon, Richmond and New Norfolk areas.
From there it increased the passenger and freight areas to St. Helens on the east coast, Queenstown on the west coast and Port Arthur down the Peninsula.
Service wise the Blackmans Bay, Richmond and New Norfolk services went to Metro, the Main Road service went to Redline Coaches and the tour section with east coast, west coast, Port Arthur and Huon were purchased by a mainland company now known as Tigerline or Tassielink.
