 University of Sarajevo
The modern history of the Sarajevo University began with the establishment of the first secular institutions of higher education prior to World War II as well as during the war (the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry in 1940, the Medical Faculty in 1944).
This brought considerable damage to the University of Sarajevo, because the coherence of university education and scientific research was jeopardised.
The undergoing academic renewal comprises the realisation of a new concept of organisation and function of the University in accordance with contemporary standards, the modernisation of curricula and the education of the necessary teaching personnel.

Archais Kahan in his study of Jewish economic history shows that most of the time Jews fit in the Early Modern period as outsiders not because of Ethos, but Jews were willing to go into the new productions like coffee shops, sugar - kept out of traditional professions.
For some, the choices were peasant Jew or modern German, many converted to leave their peasant life.
Poland will have no army, suffering from 30 year war and when it is carved out of existence, Prussia will take north coastal cities and those Jews once annexed, their children will go to German public schools and will be taken over by Germany in that respect.

The other is the late Ottoman era, from 1697 to 1878, which saw the decline of the empire, the city, and a number of disasters.
It is no coincidence that the beginning of the late Ottoman era in Sarajevo's history begins with the end of the Austro-Ottoman War.
The citizens of Sarajevo at that point had to start rebuilding their city from square one, not just structurally, but culturally and politically as well.

On April 5, 1992 Sarajevo, the capital of the Republic of Bosnia - Herzegovina, was attacked.

The siege of the city lasted from May 2, 1992 to February 26, 1996 or 1.395 days, which is the longest siege in the modern history of mankind.

Sarajevo, the Muslim-held capital, remained in a state of virtual siege while Serb attacks on Muslim towns in the east of the country led the United Nations to declare some of them ‘safe areas’.
In June 1995, to deter air attacks against them, the Bosnian Serbs temporarily took 350 UN troops hostage, including 33 members of the Royal Welch Fusiliers who were serving in the ‘safe’ area of Gorazde.
However, in response to the Serb capture in July and August 1995 of the safe areas of Srebrenica and Zepa and a mortar attack on a crowded market place in Sarajevo, the United Nations empowered NATO to act and air strikes were authorised against the Bosnian Serbs.
