The naval battles of World War II are portrayed, with a narration by Alexander Scourby and a background score by Richard Rodgers.
This film portrays world events from 1939 to 1941, including the war in China, the early phases of World War II in Europe, the fall of France, U.S. World War II mobilization, and Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor.
Most countries in the world established themselves by means of wars: wars of conquest, wars of independence, and wars of unification.

Military history of France during World War II - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
France, along with the United Kingdom, was one of the first participants in World War II after declaring war on Nazi Germany following its invasion of Poland in 1939.
This government, officially neutral in World War II, was commonly referred to as Vichy France and was headed by Pétain.
They were led by Charles de Gaulle, under-secretary of state for war and national defence, whose role in the resistance was to pave the way for his immense impact on the future of France, as leader of its provisional government and first President of the French Fifth Republic.

 Wehrmacht - Free net encyclopedia
During World War II, the Wehrmacht consisted of the army (das Heer), the navy (die Kriegsmarine) and the air force (die Luftwaffe), with Waffen-SS ("SS in arms") and Sturmabteilung (SA) units occasionally added.
Given the Nazi ideology that land required for Germany's expansion was in the hands of those deemed "racially inferior", massive numbers of war crimes were committed by Nazi Germany on the Eastern front and in conquered territory — in particular, Poland and the Soviet Union.
After World War I ended with the capitulation of the German empire, the treaty of Versailles imposed severe constraints on the size of Germany's armed forces.

 Military History Online
During World War II German strategy went from a mobile defense, nearly succeeding at Gela and Salerno, to a defense at the waters edge at Normandy necessitated by the declining power of the Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine.
As American capabilities and experience grew during World War II amphibious assaults evolved from the close run, shoestring operation at Guadalcanal (1) into the incredibly complex and massive invasions of Normandy and Okinawa involving thousands of ships, planes and men and vast supply chains.
At this point in the war however the Luftwaffe was still a force to be reckoned with.

Two decades after the legendary Thoroughbred Man o' War left his mark on racing history with his famous 20 victories in 21 races, the course of the Second World War was changed by the arrival of North American P-51 Mustang in the airwar over northern Europe.
Metamorphosis V: Man o' War is a tribute to the P-51 Mustang and to all the brave men of war whose courage and flying skill helped bring about the Allied victory in World War II.
As Man o' War is remembered above all the great horses that have thundered over American turf, so the mighty Mustang is celebrated as the overall finest piston-engine fighter of WWII and one of the greatest fighters of all time.

Myths about the Polish Air Force in WWII - Polish Aviation History Page
The Polish Air Force was wiped out of existence during German invasion, and took no further part in WW II.
With the help of Polish embassies and consulates, which provided false papers and bribe money, most of them were able to make their escape through the Mediterranean to France and England in time to take part in the defence of France and in the Battle of Britain.
It's no wonder then, that a few years later these pilots were to be considered the best among the RAF, especially when compared with the run-of-the-mill RAF or even Luftwaffe pilots (which - of course - does not mean that both these airforces did not have good or outstanding pilots).

The 15,287.4 tons of Linebacker II is a far cry from the 40,885 tons of bombs dropped by the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain alone.
Inasmuch as the defenses faced in Linebacker II have been described as among the most intense in air power history and accepting the critics’ choices for comparison, the accompanying chart provides testimony to the adherence of Linebacker II forces to the law of war in the execution of their assigned missions.
If Linebacker II is to be judged, it should be measured against the law of war, for those are the rules governing nations in their conduct of hostilities.

Reader's Companion to Military History - - Strategic Bombing
The early stages of World War II contradicted the prediction that the bomber would "always get through." The development of radar had given the British enough of a defensive edge over the Luftwaffe to foil Adolf Hitler's plans for an amphibious invasion of the island.
At the outset of World War I, unsophisticated airplanes, made mainly of wood and canvas and tied together with wire and string, were brought into service in a variety of military roles.
After the war, and with the advent of the Cold War, most modern air forces turned their attention to nuclear bombing and nuclear deterrence.
