  History of the People's Republic of China - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Historically, the same name but implies the most recent of historical eras in Chinese history that was preceded by thousands of years of imperial dynasties and the Republic.
This span of history thus lasts between 1949 and the present, and included decades of political struggle, economic and social reform, as well as many movements that left a permanent mark both inside China and on a much larger, international scale.
Ironically, the PRC has moved sharply away from Maoism since his death, and most of Mao's followers regard the Deng Xiaoping reforms to be a betrayal of Mao's legacy.

October, 1928) was the Chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) from 1998 to 2003 and was second ranking in the Communist Party of China behind Jiang Zemin on the Politburo Standing Committee of the CPC until 2002.
The PRC's leaders, especially Li, were horrified that the Tiananmen protests could topple the government, at a time when, as they argued, political stability was so crucial for economic reforms and modernization.
Premier Li Peng, who backed Deng's decision to crack down on the protestors declared martial law in May 1989 and was instrumental in the dismissal and arrest in June 1989 of Zhao Ziyang, who had opposed Deng.
