Led by the “Air Coryell” offensive attack, the Cardinals won back-to-back division titles in 1974 and 1975, as St. Louis went 10-4 and 11-3, respectively.
Coryell was an NFL head coach for 14 seasons, five seasons with the St. Louis football Cardinals (42-29-1 record from 1973-77), and nine seasons with the San Diego Chargers (72-60 record, from 1978-86).
As with the Cardinals, the three consecutive 10-plus win seasons during Coryell’s tenure with San Diego are the only such seasons in Chargers’ history.
