  Port of Hitachinaka: Overview
Hitachinaka Port, which is rapidly becoming an international port hub with a state-of-the-art marine container terminal, has combined with the Kita-Kanto Expressway system linking Tochigi and Gunma Prefectures to create a new distribution network bridging East Japan.
Expectations are high for Hitachinaka Port to develop into the Gateway to East Japan and bridge the gap for all forms of transportation between land and sea.
In December of the same year, the Hitachinaka FAZ Distribution Site (7,440 square meters of warehouse area) began operation in the domestic cargo area of the North Wharf.

In recent years, from the viewpoint of environmental conservation, it has become a top priority to improve the heat efficiency of thermal power plants.
Under such circumstances, in December 2003, a 1,000-MW coal-fired power plant with the world's highest efficiency — Unit No. 1 of Hitachinaka Thermal Power Station of The Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. — was put into service.
This generator consists of a coal-fired boiler with an extremely high critical pressure and a main steam temperature of 600°C as well as a state-of-the-art steam turbine with 41-inch-long (about 104 cm) final-stage turbine blades.
