Selections from Final Fantasy XII (Soundtrack) by Hitoshi Sakimoto
Addtionally, Hitoshi Sakimoto has written well respected scores for other video games such as: Treasure Hunter G, Radiant Silvergun, Vagrant Story, and Gradius V. The initial release for this score came in the form of one of those extravagant, limited edition packages that Japanese labels are famous for.
Hitoshi Sakimoto and company's work for FINAL FANTASY XII is full of strong thematic material, blarring fanfares, and pulsating, action cues, but also subtler thematic pieces.
Hitoshi Sakimoto's score for FINAL FANTASY XII returns to origins of the franchise and is a definite improvement over XI.

Chudah's Corner - Reviews   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Hitoshi Sakimoto is a composer who is best known for his orchestral soundtracks, and is thus associated with that particular style by the majority of game music fans that are familiar with his music.
An orchestra begins the piece with a noble horn and trumpet melody, and after the theme is stated in its completeness a quick-paced rhythm cuts in with sweeping sound effects and panning pizzicato chords, fitting perfectly into the image of an open field of stars and space.
A full orchestra reclaims the stage, and all shades of electronica have been purged while the proud melody is passed from the shining bell of a trumpet to the lithe strings of the first violins and eventually finds its way to a solemn and stoic salutation to the ending of the game.

Square Haven News / The Pioneers: Hitoshi Sakimoto
At that time, Sakimoto had largely been acclimated to electronica, though his lack of experience proved to be a minor handicap, as evidenced by the game's famous overture.
Sakimoto and Iwata's compositions appear mostly in the latter half of the game, but the high quality of their efforts were recognized by granting them the honors of the main theme and introductory pieces.
Sakimoto and Iwata were selected to create a two disc soundtrack, and thanks to the improved music quality of the CD-based Playstation console their compositions would be endowed with all the quality of their Ogre Battle MIDI selections.

RPGFan Soundtracks - Stella Deus OST
For those among us that are somehow unaware of what I call the "Sakimoto strategy RPG style", expect to hear the most incredible synthesized music of your life: it is as close to "real, live instrument" as you can get without actually recording the live instrument.
Sakimoto and Iwata are uncompromising in their use of these incredible synth sounds: harp, strings, orchestra, horns, brass, booming percussion, light percussion: it's all there.
I haven't even played Stella Deus, yet I know that not only is the music composed with a mark of genius, but the music will also make for wonderful background music in the game (many have already experienced the joy of playing the game and hearing the music, and I am envious).

Sakimoto said he met Iwata during his student years at an arcade center when they were about 17, they were both purely game fans back then.
Sakimoto answered that he had little intercollaboration between people on the FF12 team, there was over 150 people on the team when he started which grew to about 500 at the end, and that in a project that big there are people that specialize in every area, so he wasn't always able to discuss details.
Sakimoto answered that he is aware of some Japanese people that remix his work but not of any American ones, and that he is happy that there are people who do it and would love to visit the sites if he knew them.

In 1997, Sakimoto led the fantastical orchestral score to Matsuno's Final Fantasy Tactics, resulting in his exposure overseas and his career with Iwata diverging.
Initially dedicated to promoting independent artists, Sakimoto focused on several major projects during the first few years of its existence — Breath of Fire V, Perfect Prince, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Stella Deus, and Gradius V —; though administrative responsibilities limited his time.
Sakimoto nevertheless scored much of A.S.H., Final Fantasy Tactics A2, and Opoona while dabbling in non-game projects such as vocal album Colors of Life and the animes Romeo X Juliet and The Tower of Druaga.

It’s surprising — if you have listened to any of the previous soundtracks that Sakimoto has worked on, you’d be astonished at how distinct his style of music is. I thought, “Very Sakimoto,” right when I popped in the first disc of the soundtrack.
The battle themes don’t have the caliber as to what I’m used to with Sakimoto — the effectiveness of brawl or dramatic scene happening was pretty much vapid on each track on every single disc.

Sakimoto’s score is bold, bright, and brassy, perhaps the most upbeat and optimistic music he’s ever penned and lightyears away from the darkness of Vagrant Story.
Sakimoto was not the only composer to write music for Final Fantasy XII; fellow Square-Enix veteran Hayato Matsuo, best known for previous collaborations with Sakimoto like Ogre Battle and contributions to various Front Mission titles.
