  History of Iowa County - I's
The county was named for General George W. Jones who, as delegate in congress, secured the creation of the Territory of Iowa, and who was one of the first United States Senator when it became a state.
This county was named for the Sac chief whose name signifies "Watchful Fox." The northern tier of townships was contained in the old county of the same name, while its entire territory was once embraced in the original county of Demone.
The county lies in the third tier north of Missouri and its eastern boundary is the Mississippi River.

The Wisconsin Legislature approved payment of both one-time and annual impact fees to counties and municipalities through which high-voltage transmission lines are routed.

It was sparsely settled until the railroad of Wisconsin Central came through the town and a railroad station was established in the central part of the town.
The township of Thorp was divided from west Hixon April 3, 1876 and the township of Hoard was formed from east Hixon, March of 1889.
On this 1874 Clark County, WI Township Map, Hixon encompasses today's townships of Hixon, Withee and Thorp as well as portions of Hoard, Longwood, Reseburg and Worden.

At 3,816 acres, Trout Lake is the biggest lake in the county -- a beautiful deep, clear water with towering white pines and a rocky shoreline reminiscent of Lake Superior.
True to its name, it is one of only two lakes in Wisconsin with a native lake trout population (Black Oak, also in Vilas County, is the other.) The two-mile scenic Ben Bendrick Drive along the eastern shore of Trout Lake has wonderful views and picnic areas.

Ohio achieved statehood and left the Territory; then in 1796 it became part of Wayne County (Detroit) (Editor's note: Detroit was part of the "Indiana Territory" with Fort Dearborn or later on, Chicago, being the closest settlement).
In 1818 it was part of Brown County (Green Bay), created by the Governor of the Michigan Territory (Brown County being one of three counties created).
Lannon donated the (acre?) of land for the cemetery (though on page 756 in the "History of Waukesha County - 1880" - it states that one L. Kinsley donated one acre for the cemetery) and James Brogan an acre for the church and parsonage.
