 | | During the summer of 1834 the residents of the locality determined to organize a school, and hiring a teacher (as some say, a female instructor; as others, S. Hanson, of Maumee) they sent their children en mass, to gather up the crumbs of wisdom which might fall from the tongue of the pedagogue. |
 | | For six weeks the children attended school, while their teacher "boarded round," receiving at the close of the term a small sum in recognition of his services. |
