He set a new Olympic record time of 1:26.739 in the 1000 m, finishing ahead of teammate Lee Ho-Suk and rival Ohno.
Ahn and Lee Ho-Suk used to attend the same high school together, and even shared a room last year in skating camps, but now rarely talk to each other.
Ahn has mentioned on his personal website that the pressure is too much for him and he has thought of quitting the sport.

Lee was another serious contender for the title and only needed a podium finish to become the 2006 World Champion, but victory eluded him as he slipped into fifth place in the 3000 and second overall.
However Ahn had a sufficient lead to nonetheless be the overall winner with 68 points, Lee had 60 and Tremblay 55.

Ho-suk Lee pulled off his special brand of magic, moving up from last to win his heat as well, similar to Hamelin, though Lee also capitalized on the mistake of the Bulgarian skater in the next-to-last lap.
Lee went after him hard and caught him at the end, only to fall at the 6th block on the final turn.
I believe it was a little late, but the gap that he closed (all by the outside of course) was pretty impressive, especially considering the sprinting he had done at the start.
