		HOBBS ANGEL OF DEATH had some great songs, like "House of Death," or "Bubonic Plague." They did a self titled album in 1988, and then were silent until 1995, with the release of the Inheritance album.
		It turns out that it was he, and not Peter who had joined HOBBS ANGEL OF DEATH for a bit and did that album.
		He informed me that Peter Hobbs is now around age forty, and has decided to become a retired old fart who doesn't want to be contacted by anyone.

		Hobbs' Angel of Death are an Australian thrash metal band that began in the late 1980s and continue to this day.
		Hobbs' debut self-titled album was released in 1988 through German record label Steamhammer Records, which achieved a great deal of success in Europe.
		In 2002, Peter Hobbs put the band back together and released a compilation album of his two early demos, and the band played a European tour including an appearance at Wacken Festival, and shows with German thrash legends Destruction and fl metallers Mayhem.

		With their so-called "virgin metal"--to describe their 'untainted' metal style--the band began life as a solo project for Hobbs, with musicians being drawn from other Melbourne bands (Woolley was from Nothing Sacred) to make up the numbers and perform live, which happened rarely.

		Essentially a solo project for one Peter Hobbs, Hobbs Angel Of Death was one of the earliest extreme metal projects to originate from Australia.
		It was eight years before Hobbs recruited a new lineup and released Inheritance, and it appears that the wait for the next one will be just about as long, as it has been reported that Hobbs once again has another new lineup after being dormant for most of the nineties.
		Two early demos have been packaged and released on one CD as Hobbs' Satans Crusade, and the new lineup (which is as of this writing in flux once again) hopes to record a new album later in 2004.

		Long-running US death metallers Malevolent Creation recently finished recording their new and ninth full-length album Warkult which is said to be one of their most brutal recordings to date.
		We did record Hobbs Angel Of Death's song "Jack The Ripper" but Chris Barnes didn't get the Leviathan lyrics to us in time because he was on tour so we were unable to record any of those songs.
		There are too many non death metal people involved now and it is becoming quite of a joke in my opinion.

		Anyway: HOBBS ANGEL OF DEATH (wow, these guys look old) were full of energy at their first European show and the packed tent was boiling.
		After the Aussies had played ‘Satan’s Crusade’ I was happy to leave this deadly place, though, with the excuse of shooting a couple of photos of Nhashi with his heroes MAYHEM and SATYRICON backstage.
		I think they’re much more intense in a club (actually the best DEATH ANGEL gig after the reunion I witnessed was the show in Groningen, Holland) but there is no doubt that the band is one hell of a live act on big stages as well.

		It was obvious that the legend himself, Peter Hobbs, was like a god to many up the front (where much headbanging was to be had - not a place for the faint-hearted!).
		This band is one tight, heavy unit, with Peter roaring out the lyrics while hammering the riffs on the guitar.
		Guys from the Melodic Metal scene, who had assumed the band was on the extreme side of Death Metal or something, really got a pleasant surprise to find them Old-School Thrash - and up there with the best, at that.

		Thanks to Keith (from DESTROYER 666), HOBBS ANGEL OF DEATH also played one clubgig in Tilburg's "the Little Devil" Heavy Metal pub.
		Fans from Germany and of course Netherlands celebrated this glorious night, HOBBS' really kicked ass and played both old songs and even two new, unreleased tracks from an upcoming album.

		2004's Warkult is something like their tenth LP of original material, and, although guitarist Phil Fasciana is now the sole remnant from 1991's debut The Ten Commandments, the band's corrosive brand of classic American death metal remains relatively intact.
		New school, meet the old school -- this is what death metal was originally built on: speedy, post-thrash riffing slung to lower depths of tuning and frequent time changes, and, certainly in Malevolent Creation 's case, rough but generally intelligible cookie-monster vocals (if you really have to pay attention to the lyrics).
