Hobey Baker (January 15, 1892 - December 21, 1918), more fully Hobart Amory Hare Baker, was a noted sportsman.
Hobey was an ace fighter pilot in World War I, leading a squad known as the "Flying Tigers." Having received his orders to return home, he took one final flight test piloting a Spad at the end of the war, dying when it crashed.
The Hobey Baker Memorial Award is given annually to the top American college hockey player, and Princeton's Hobart Baker Memorial Rink is named for him.

Hobart Amory Hare Baker was born in 1892 and was arguably the best athlete of his time when he captained Princeton’s hockey and football teams before World War I. During the war, Baker saw similar individual success, as he became a war hero after flying against Von Richtofen and Goering while downing three German aircraft.
Perhaps its that reason that since the award that dons his name and recognizes the best individual player in the game was created, all but three were denied in their efforts to lead their team to NCAA glory.
The last time both a Hobey Baker winner and national banner were celebrated at the same university was in 1993 when Paul Kariya won the honor with 100 points while leading his Black Bears to a 42-1-1 record.
