With the support of Maine's Federal delegation, the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) and the Maine Technology Institute (MTI), Hodgdon was able to secure a $1 million contract in 2004 to design the hull and received a second contract in 2005 to start construction of the prototype.
Hodgdon has built more than 400 vessels in Maine since the launching of its first boat in 1816, and it has remained a family owned and operated business for nearly two centuries.
