Hoff is to be commended for making a valuable contribution to the de-mystification of this wonderful art.
This is probably due to Hoff’s apparent belief that the standard ANKF shomen uchiokoshi (straight-ahead lifting) style and the Ogasawara Ryu are the same.
For example, Hoff states that the test for 5th kyu is done at the makiwara (a practice target made of wrapped straw that is shot at from a distance of about 6 feet).
