Except on Discworld, it's called Hogswatch, the jolly old fat man is the Hogfather, and he rides around in a sleigh pulled by four large boars named Gouger, Rooter, Tusker and Snouter.
The daughter of Death's adopted daughter and her husband, Death's former apprentice, Susan can see things that most people can't, can walk through walls, has a strangely commanding voice, and packs a mean poker for thumping monsters.
Susan demands an explanation and Death reveals that the Hogfather is dead.

Hogfather is packed with weird and wonderful characters, and the many separate plot threads are told in an interesting way even if the director takes his sweet time in weaving them together.

It is important that the Hogfather rides, not just to not disappoint the kiddies, but for far more important reasons as well, reasons which have to do with the Hogfather's past as a somewhat less kinder spirit.

Review - Hogfather by Terry Pratchett
Hogfather is a Death novel, and we get to see his grand-daughter Susan again.
Susan is trying to be normal, and has taken a post as a governess to a family, where the children of the house have been threatened with bogey men under the beds and the bears who get you when you step on the cracks.
Death, in the meantime, is trying to take over the post of the Hogfather, with the sleigh and the pigs pulling it all over the world in one night to be able to deliver all the presents to the children.

 Hogfather Summary / Study Guide
Hogfather, like many of Pratchett's novels, can be seen as having more than one protagonist.

Pratchett has developed Death as a sympathetic character through a number of the "Discworld" novels, presenting him as a fundamentally decent character who, in his attempts to understand and interact with humans, unwittingly strips the pretensions...
