Hoist (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hoist is the seventh studio album by the jam band Phish.
The album was the best selling Phish album at the time of its release.
The album includes cameos from Alison Krauss, Béla Fleck, and many other musicians as well as actor Jonathan Frakes on trombone.

Album gives construction details as (8+4+8):(13+4+13) which is fine but doesn't give a clue about the relative width of the white cross.
Album does not give any construction details but shows the jack the same as it is in the Flaggenbuch, each arm being 4+2+4 in the overall flag of 50:75.
Album pictures it quite matching the construction details in [neu92], but does not mention these details: width 8cm, length of the naval ensign at hoist 24 cm, length of the white part max.

The shield is slightly shifted to the hoist, according to the legal prescription: Anordnung über die deutschen Flaggen (Instruction on the German Flags) of 13th November 1996, published in the Bundesgesetzblatt I 1996, p.
But Album des Pavillons 1990, Reibert 1942 —the quasi-official German soldier's manual— and the official Informationen zur politischen Bildung all show the arms in the center, so that I feel I must conclude that Smith is probably in error on this issue.
In the illustration of the official publication I measured from hoist to the coat of arms 2.8 cm, from the coat to the fly 2.9 cm.

This album finishes with an a cappella song called "Grind." Phish have performed many other a cappella songs in their career, including "Hello My Baby," and a cover of the Lynyrd Skynyrd song "Freebird." "Grind," however was Phish's first-recorded a cappella song.

 livephish.com | ESSAY 11/30/94 and 12/01/94
Phish began the touring year of 1994 with seventy-four shows from April through July following the release of their fifth album, "Hoist." Responding to an increasing number of tapers and core fans hitting the road for multiple shows, Phish mixed things up even more than usual.
They capped the summer off with the first performances of the Gamehendge Saga (the second with all of "Hoist" as a second set!) and a blistering tour-closing show in Vermont, which was later released as LIVEPHISH 02.
This time they were armed with multi-track recording gear to capture the shows for their first live album "A Live One." Attendance grew larger and performances riskier with more exploratory jams and the debut of complex composition Guyute and several covers.

It would be their next album, though, that showed Phish were more than just a live band trying to capture their stage show on CD.
Sadly, their next album, Rift, would not be so lucky, as this concept album of sorts collapsed under its own artistic weight.
But the album does have a couple songs — such as "Birds Of A Feather" — where they managed to loosen up a bit, and inject a little of their early, jammy vibe back in the mix.
