Hokuriku region (北陸地方, literally North Land) is the region along the Sea of Japan within the Chubu region, the central region of Honshu, the main island of Japan.
The variously defined region includes the prefectures of Toyama, Ishikawa and Fukui, and may include Niigata Prefecture as well.
In the former case, Niigata Prefecture and Nagano Prefecture form the Shinetsu region and together with Hokuriku region comprise Hoku-shin'etsu (literally North Shin'etsu).

The Hokuriku Main Line (北陸本線) is a line of the West Japan Railway Company connecting the Kansai region to the Sea of Japan coast.
It passes through the prefectures of the Hokuriku region.
The line is an important intercity segment because the Shinkansen network does not connect these two regions: narrow gauge high-speed trains such as the Thunderbird, Raicho, and Shirasagi are common sights along the line.
