One of the coolest features found on my car and all other Holdens at the time is the Vacum gadge.
After seeing a article in Zoom magazine where they worked a JE Camira by simply replacing the cam, bigger exhust and chip in the computer they got 110Kws.

The Camira has a real rollercoaster history when it comes to power figures and it went something like this: the JB had a weeky 1.6-litre engine that needed to be revved hard and even then didn't produce much thrust.
The end results was that the Camira was a reasonably good performer once again and, since the basic suspension package hadn't changed, it still handled pretty well, too.
In fact, that's the real tragedy of the Camira; not that Holden couldn't bolt the things together successfully, that that if you could keep a Camira in one piece (and it wasn't easy) it was actually a pretty good thing to drive.

Holden's plastic department must have been in its infancy in 1988 as the dashboard and bumpers haven't aged very well.
Faithful to their reputation, the panels don't line up very well but it can't be all bad because a Jappa ran into me and was written off but the Camira only sustained a small dent.
All in all, this JE Camira has far exceeded its reputation and looks in heaps better shape now compared to its competitors of the day (Sierras, Coronas, 626s etc) and it hasn't had an easy life.

Some very interesting cars meeting at the cruise point, heaps of imports, a VX Ute Twin Turbo, couple of Geminis, one turboed, a fair bit of 300ZXs, and what looked to be like an eXcel club was there with their 5 car army, one was actually turbo.
We had a barbeque dinner, left a steak out for the hobos, checked out each other's cars, then unfortunately Wado had to leave, so it was myself and Camira Chick in her car, Cobra and his bro in his car, and Crokdee all cruising through Surfers and the Gold Coast.
The Melbourne Camira Cruise is a monthly event, happening on the forth Sunday of each month.

Early ECU equipped vehicles (eg VN Commodore, JE Camira, LD Astra) used the the CEL (Check Engine Lamp), also known as SES (Service Engine Soon), circuit to serve as the ALDL data output stream.
In these vehicles a lamp is connected to an output of the ECU and the ECU grounds this pin to turn on the lamp.
I have measured the times for a 1227808 ECU running a standard Holden VN calibration (ASBX in this case), and these are shown below.
