2003 Holden Vectra: First look / News & Reports / Motoring / Web Wombat
Holden states that the revamped Vectra model range signals the start of a new era in front-wheel drive vehicles for the marque, and this can be interpreted as a nod in the direction of the 2004/05 Astra.
With its elongated wheelbase and wider stance, the new Holden Vectra is a half-size larger than its predecessor and boasts interior dimensions that are close to those of the first-series Holden Commodore.
The ZC Vectra has already been awarded the prestigious European Golden Steering Wheel Award in 2002, and when it launches in April 2003 it looks set to help revitalise what was, just a few years ago, a flagging medium car market.

The noise and movement I constantly reported for three years and investigated by Holden Head Office Engineers was repeatedly put down to "normal road noise" and my stupidity as a female, but in actual fact it was a the fuel tank being loose.
Holden appear to have no concern for our safety, they think I have no right to be angry and when asked are they proud of the product I have been supplied with appear to have no care about what I am going through or have to tolerate.

 Opel Vectra History
In 1998, Holden began assembly of the Vectra for export to other right-hand-drive markets in the region, although this was aversely affected by the Asian economic crisis, and ended in 2001.
Introduced in 2003, the current model, the Vectra C (or ZC in Holden terms), is built in Germany, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, and is based on the GM Epsilon platform.
While the Vectra C is sold in Mexico as a Chevrolet, it is not sold in Brazil, where a new, locally designed Vectra sedan, based on the smaller Astra was released in October 2005.

 Holden Vectra - Drive.com.au
Holden has always had a presence in the medium-car segment, from the strong but primitive Torana of the 1960s and '70s to the dreaded Camira of the 1980s.
Holden, keen as ever to make hay while the sun shone, decided to begin manufacturing the Vectra at its Adelaide plant - the engine was already being built at the company's Port Melbourne engine plant so it wasn't a difficult move to make.
A well-cared-for Vectra should still be a nice car to drive, with a good balance of ride and handling and styling that most people find agreeable.

The sophisticated and completely redeveloped Holden Vectra range introduced in March 2003 comprises three models: the 2.2 litre CD sedan and hatch, the 3.2 litre V6 CDX hatch and the sports-oriented V6 CDXi hatch.
While the updated 2004 Vectra offers new features and a similarly award-winning blend of powerful performance, impressive driving dynamics, refined ride quality, technological innovation and high specification, price levels have been reduced by almost 10 per cent on the CD model and almost five per cent on the CDX and CDXi.
Externally, the 2004-specification Holden Vectra CD and CDX models are set apart by clear white side repeater indicators and rear indicator lens.

Holden chairman and managing director, Peter Hanenberger, says the new generation Vectra will strengthen the company’s standing within the market and play a key strategic role through its ability to bring new customers into Holden showrooms.
Throughout the Vectra development process, both were subjected to an intensive auditing, evaluation and field testing program by Holden powertrain engineers to ensure that they measured up to Australian requirements in terms of driver expectations and driving environment.

Most obvious difference about Holden's JS Series II Vectra, launched today, is its new look "jewelled finish"headlights, new colours - including the dramatic chromatic orange/gold Tiger - deeper, body-coloured door sills and deeper rear bumper and, of course, new wheels.
Holden claims its engineers have improved low to mid-range torque availability in the Vectra's 16-valve, 2.2 litre Ecotec engine, increasing its responsiveness in everyday traffic and in overtaking.
Ride and handling has been "fine tuned", according to Holden, with a bigger stabiliser bar to reduce body roll, improve steering response and improve cornering ability.

AutoSpeed - New Car Test - Holden Vectra CD Sedan
It may be a mite more expensive than you'd expect a Holden Vectra to be, but the end result is so good that the dollars can probably be justified.
Having been enormously impressed by the hatchback CDXi V6 Vectra that we drove some months ago ["New Car Test - Holden Vectra CDXi"], in a way we were expecting to be disappointed by the much lower powered, (108kW versus 155kW) CD sedan version which also lacks some equipment (and doesn't get the sports suspension!).
The Vectra is a car with enormous stability, an unflappable chassis, top body engineering (although in the test car the driver's door shut with a slight rattle), a practical and roomy interior and a good performance/economy compromise.

Dangerous design fault - often stalling during gear changes (a dead car halfway through a roundabout with oncoming traffic is no fun at all) - as noted in other Vectra responses here, it will require regular replacement for the entire life of the vehicle.
After much annoyed phone calls to Holden Australia (armed with some research from online resources like this (carsurvey) and www.consumer.org.nz) - Holden agreed to pay for the parts, but I still had to pay for labour (out of warranty).
I also have to contend with Holden refusing to acknowledge that recurring design faults are the same as the ones they fixed under warranty for other owners and I am now being charged a fortune in repair costs.

The new ZC-series Holden Vectra feels like a prestige Euro more than it has any right to, given its price - from its up-to-the-minute chassis and suspension design to its wonderful engine, this is a car that impresses from the moment you jump in.
Onboard, the CDX Vectra (available only as a 5-door hatch) offers more than adequate front sprawling space while the 3-seater rear, although quite good overall, is a tad limited in headroom; if you're taller than the average adult, it's likely your head will brush against the hoodlining.
