Holga images tend to be faded or have a yellowish tint.
Holga images, therefore, are a result of precise knowledge and skills combined with unpredictable faults and flaws.
Holgas also can be equipped with lenses, such as a fish eyes lens, colored bodies, cable releasers, and pretty much anything else a film enthusiast can think of.

Unless you are using flash (the Holga 120S does have a working hotshoe) controlling exposure is almost impossible – you have one shutter speed (reputed to be ~1/100th of a second) and possibly 2 apertures –; f8 and 11.
I have two Holgas – one older, on newer, and the aperture changing mechanism is clearly different between them.
The newer Holgas have foam rubber pads near the film rolls that act as tensioners for the film – as a result, you get a somewhat tightly wound roll of film when you’re done shooting.

The Holga uses medium format film and has some interesting characteristics: it leaks light and the resulting images tend to be somewhat fuzzy due to the above mentioned plastic lens.
Photographing with the Holga is a little bit like therapy, in that it teaches you to give up control and embrace random ocurrences of serendipity instead.
The focus controls on the Holga are as follows: Set it on the mountain for far away shots, on the group of people for medium far away shots and on the little person for closeups.

 Holga FAQ
Someone asked this question and someone else said their Holga does it too and it was ok. So until I hear from someone that this resulted in damage to their camera or some other property in some way, I will assume that this is normal for some Holgas and is nothing to be concerned about.
Due to the fixed nature of the Holga’s exposures, choose your film speed carefully but don’t be afraid to waste a roll or two finding the right speed for what you want to shoot.
The dreaminess of the Holga’s images is due to the imperfections in the plastic lens and the fact that it is a single element lens.

The Holga at the heart of the cult following is the Holga 120S which is the main Holga that I use, although there are now many more versions of this plastic classic including the 120N which is the other model I shoot.
I've found like many others that the Holga can be house trained (but never tamed without modification) and not only produce pictures which have character that are fun to capture, but pictures that stand alone in their own right which attract public and artistic interest.
The pictures produced with a Holga do seem to be either loved by those that understand them, or hated by those that see them only as something, which does not fit into their vision of todays sterilised world.

When it comes to the Holga, soft edges and vignetting are very good things, and contribute to the vintage or dreamy feeling that Holga photos often have.
Light leaks in the Holga can be a real problem, but they can be easily fixed using matte fl photographer's tape or fl gaffer tape, and sticky Velcro (you can clearly see the Velcro around my Holga in the photo above - thanks Rannie for showing me how to do that).
Other features of the Holga include a hotshoe for a flash, two exposures, which are shown above the lens by a sun and a cloud (these don't actually seem to do anything - pick one and leave it there), and a focusable lens.
