National Democratic Party of Germany (NPD) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
During a silence to mark the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz, twelve members of the NPD walked out in protest.
Holger Apfel, leader of the NPD in Saxony and deputy leader of the party nationwide, made a speech in the Saxon Landtag which he called the Allied forces of the USA and Britain "mass murderers" because of their role in the bombing.
His colleague, Jürgen Gansel went on to describe the bombing itself as a "Holocaust of bombs", employing an often used strategy of the NPD and many neo-Nazis of implying a moral equivalence between the bombing and the Holocaust.

Apfel appears to believe that Jews and others have been memorialized sufficiently over the past 60 years, while the extermination of innocent Germans has not been memorialized at all.
The Saxon State Parliament had earlier rejected a motion brought by the NPD asking that the minute’s silence memorializing the victims of Auschwitz be restricted to commemorate the victims of the Allied terror bombing of Dresden in February 1945.
Holger Apfel and the folk in the NPD believe that those mass terror killings were a pretty tacky business, and that it would be a good idea to have Germans pay a little attention (for a change) to the crimes that were committed against Germans.

Ten days ago, with perfect timing, the 12 NPD representatives walked out of the plenum in a blatant manner to protest the minute of silence in memory of Nazi victims.
The party leader in Saxony, Holger Apfel, used the occasion for launching a revisionist performance, including calling the 1945 Allied bombing of Dresden a 'cold-bloodedly planned, industrial mass murder' and comparing it to the Holocaust.
Apfel attacked Germany's 'guilt culture' and the establishment parties that 'disgrace the memory of German victims, who number a quarter million in Dresden alone' - far higher than the official death count of 35,000.

That paper recently reported on this incident, which was touched off by Apfel's characterization of the destruction of Dresden in February, 1945, by allied bombers as a "bomb-holocaust," and of the Allies as "mass murderers" (No Charges Against NPD-Chief Due to "Bomb-Holocaust").
Either Apfel and Voigt did not know that, or more likely they were attempting to shock by seemingly stretching this value-laden term back to cover that which its straightforward dictionary definition suggests that it should also cover.
All of this is consistent with the trend of the last several years of Germans finally daring to pay more attention to the suffering they themselves were made to undergo during Adolph Hitler's grand geopolitical throw-of-the-dice (a subject this weblog has discussed before, but then in the context of German-vs.-Polish postwar property claims).
