Holly (Red Dwarf) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Holly's user interface appears on ship screens as a disembodied human head on a fl background, and can also be downloaded into a watch worn by Lister.
Holly prides himself on the fact he had an IQ of 6,000 but after three million years by himself, he has become computer senile, or as Holly puts it "a bit peculiar".
Holly was lost for some time along with the ship, which had been stolen by Kryten's nanobots.

Holly fails miserably and the crew dread a lifetime of being run by Queeg, until Holly declares it a practical joke and that he was Queeg the whole time.
He arrives in the Red Dwarf universe, where Rimmer is naturally extremely jealous of this 'better' version of himself, and Ace eventually decides to leave, but not before revealing to Lister the 'break' that he got in his life that Rimmer missed out on.

Red Dwarf Episode Guide by Gavrielle Perry: Introduction
Red Dwarf is grounded in the splendid British tradition of an all-male ensemble of eccentrics and losers, past examples of this including "Dad’s Army", "Porridge", "It Ain’t Half Hot Mum" and "Only Fools and Horses".
Holly then undergoes a sex change and is played in series III to V by Hattie Hayridge, who does an adequate job but whose performance sometimes errs so much on the straight side that it has somewhat of a tree-like aspect.
Red Dwarf plots are frequently deeply bizarre, and as I refuse to type screeds of stuff like "Lister thinks the Cat is about to break his tooth on an electronic goldfish", I’ve kept it down to the minimum.

Holly, the ship computer, revives Lister, and to keep him sane on board a desolate ship, recreates Rimmer in hologrammatic form, and breaks the news that Lister has been in stasis for a period of 3 million years.
Lister took control and ordered Holly to plot a course back to Earth as the finale to the first episode, and each subsequent episode for the next couple of series was to be introduced by Holly's distress call, sumarising the position of the characters on board the ship.
Red Dwarf has continued to document the adventures of these characters, and to date seven seasons have been broadcast.

Holly, Red Dwarf's own on-board computer, appears like most of his counterparts as a head floating in a fl void.
Whatever the reason, Holly has, by now, pretty much lost the plot - to the point that a head sex change operation seemed to be a really good idea.
Even Red Dwarf's self destruct computer is blissfully unaware that, at the end of its countdown, there is no longer a bomb aboard to blow up.
