		HOLMDEL - A fight between two 16-year-old township high school students on June 6 resulted in the hospitalization of one teacher and possible assault charges against the two boys.
		According to Holmdel Detective James Smythe, Cerqueira was "in the wrong place at the wrong time." He said that the Holmdel Police Department recommended to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office that the boys receive assault charges.
		According to Cerqueira, the fight was in response to one of the students harassing the other student and said it was indicative of problems at the high school.

	Bathroom fire clears Holmdel High School
		HOLMDEL - A fire in a bathroom at the township high school resulted in damage to school facilities and inconvenienced students and faculty for more than an hour on Friday, according to police.
		At 9:17 a.m., a custodian noticed heavy smoke emanating from a boys' bathroom in the 500 wing of the high school.
		The custodian activated the school's fire alarm, and students were evacuated from the school with no reported injuries.

		Nancy Wadington said she was forced to leave the school in her junior year because of persistent assaults, including one in which she was pushed down a stairway and hurt an ankle, according to a lawsuit filed Wednesday against the Holmdel Board of Education.
		Superintendent of Schools Maureen Flaherty, who came to the district in 2003, said she had not heard of the Wadington matter before the filing.
		Despite repeated complaints to school officials from the student and her mother, no student was expelled, he said.

		Though both Nancy and her mother approached the school's administration seeking assistance, they failed to stop the harassment the suit alleges.
