Holmes Rolston is University Distinguished Professor of philosophy at Colorado State University.
Rolston was distinguished lecturer at the 28th Nobel Conference, 1992, at Gustavus Adolphus College, Minnesota, authorized by the Nobel Foundation, Stockholm.

 Environmental Ethics
It would be wrong, Rolston maintained, to eliminate a rare butterfly species simply to increase the monetary value of specimens already held by collectors.
Like Routley's ‘last man’ arguments, Rolston's example is meant to draw attention to a kind of action that seems morally dubious and yet is not clearly ruled out or condemned by traditional anthropocentric ethical views.
Rolston (1996), for instance, claims that humans are a kind of planetary ‘cancer’.
