Holodeck - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A holodeck on the Enterprise-D; the arch and exit are prominent.
Holodecks are vulnerable when damage occurs to the computer controlling the holodeck.
Despite malfunctions, holodecks are a highly valued technology in Starfleet because of educational and recreational impact, enabling users to partake in scenarios that would otherwise be difficult to enact under normal circumstances.

 Monopoly
These breaks, however, would be in a fantasy setting, the holodeck, where the participants could become a part of the program of their choosing; it is like playing a game of virtual reality.
On this holodeck, to identify your true enemy, you have to study and follow the real strategy of the case, which in actuality, is being used against both of the litigants.
On the holodeck, the revenue generating litigant is to be kept in the dark at all costs.

In the Holodeck Court, to identify your true enemy you have to study and follow the real strategy of the case, which in actuality is being used against both of the litigants by those who allege to be your protectors or who alleged to be the protectors of justice itself.
To understand who is your enemy on the holodeck, you also have to understand a special defense used on the basketball court called a "triangle and two defense." This is used on a basketball court when one or two people on offense are very talented and proficient at scoring.
Unlike the basketball court, on the holodeck court, the judge hologram, and the two attorney holograms are guarding zones on the court of injustice.

A holodeck also has the ability to create holodecks within holodecks, and holodeck programs are able to be saved to a cube that can be inserted into special devices with information to "last a lifetime".
Among the viewing modes on a holodeck is objective mode, in which the user doesn't interact with the characters, and subjective mode, in which the viewer can interact with the characters as well as alter his or her surroundings.
Holodeck characters have been known to include a program element designed to hide anachronisms to the program's time period, such as uniforms and communicators, and prevent them from raising the character's ire.

Decipher.com - Star Trek CCG - Holodeck Adventures
Holodecks, holosuites, holographic characters, and holoprograms have played many major and minor roles in the Star Trek The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager series, as well as all three of the "24th century" Star Trek movies.
So the designers had an abundance of material from which to select the cards to be included in the Holodeck Adventures expansion – so much material, in fact, that they had to make some hard choices.
A ship or facility with a holodeck would not be considered holodeck-related unless the ship played an integral part in the holographic nature of the episode (such as the Olarra).

Picard describes holodeck objects to have been turned from energy into matter (as in the transporter), but Janeway describes holograms as photons and force fields (which sounds to me a lot less advanced technologically than assembling complex molecular structures from subatomic particles).
As for what holodeck matter is REALLY made of, this seems to be a case of after the explanation was given on the air, some writer saying, "Wait, I've got a better idea!" Regardless, the instability of holodeck matter had already been established before the Moriarti episode.

Holodeck can be used in conjunction with your already existing Automated Test Frameworks to increase the probability of finding bugs.
Holodeck can be used for ad-hoc testing by manipulating tests, faults, limits in the UI while running your test framework.

The walls of the holodeck are covered with millions of omni-directional holo diodes (OHDs) that can project full-color three dimensional images and force fields.

Although Trip encountered holographic technology aboard the Xyrillian ship in "Unexpected", it was not a holodeck, but a holographic chamber similar but likely far less advanced to the holodecks used aboard Federation starships in the 24th century.
It is a good addition to the page (as well as the primitive holodeck from "The Practical Joker") in terms of the history of the technology as a whole, and not just limiting it to the Federation's use of the technology.
The fact that the holodeck was upgraded Bynars to seem "more realistic" could probably be a valid excuse for the behavior of the holodeck in the first episodes, and a later episode.

Easily the most underground in Cardiff, the only techno that Holodeck promotes is tasteful, clever techno that gets the groover’s ass shaking well before they realise it.

The location of Gretsky’s (the outskirts of the city centre) also ensures that the only type of punter present at any of Holodeck’s massive sessions is the type who wants to be there.

Writer's Block, Book Review, Hamlet on the Holodeck: The Future of Narrative in Cyberspace - Spring 1998
The academic subculture of cultural studies is characterized by cross-disciplinary status and a refusal to accept the division between high and low culture.
Hamlet on the Holodeck describes the conditions that are creating possibilities for this next stage and the work that is being done to explore the new possibilities.
Murray speculates on the directions that narrative follow, as a result of new techniques that, by her account, are particularly suited to appropriation by writers — or whatever the creators of stories in the new medium will be called.

CNN.com - Technology - Army wants to harness power of the Matrix - May 2, 2000
William Campbell, the Army's chief information officer, said the Army is studying the feasibility of building a "holodeck," a cutting-edge simulator that would use virtual cinematography and video game technology to create realistic 3-D scenes of actual locations worldwide that soldiers could use for training and mission rehearsal.
Campbell said it is this type of photo-manipulation technology, as well as the simulation technology depicted in "Star Trek: The Next Generation," that the Army hopes to use in its future holodeck.
"The holodeck is the Holy Grail of the institute," Debevec said.

For those who have never watched the television classic "Star Trek," according to this show, a holodeck is a computerized program that can "reproduce" a place of paradise, or a day in World War II, or whatever scene the characters choose to create.
Except for the person using the holodeck program, all the characters on the stage of the holodeck are mere holographic images.
What I now refer to as the "courtroom holodeck" is the scene of the crime, and the stage where this chimera is played out.

 DS9 Crashed the Holodeck
In my earlier article, I presented a situation that would keep a Star Trek holodeck from working: you and another person walk in opposite directions and pretty quickly you'd both walk into the walls or else the holodeck would have to use a tractor beam or other optical effect to induce you to turn.
This is exactly contrary to the whole concept of the holodeck: you ain't supposed to notice the "tricks" being played on your senses.
Remember, the holodeck creates solid objects that are close to people and just projects images when an object is far away, so that's real, wet water it has to contain.
