Mayan Majix - Article - A Walk With A Holy Man
The holy man plays the drum, he becomes one with his drum and as the holy mans spirit is being called by Creator.
The ancestor elders speak to the holy man, have courage and be strong, you will help lead others away from their uncaring fearful ways down the sacred path with a heart of wings.
The holy man was given the ancient strengths and wisdom of the ancestor elders.

 SPLICEDwire: "Holy Man" review
I walked out on "Holy Man," the new Eddie Murphy movie in which he plays a vaguely spiritual apostle who becomes the product-hocking hit of a TV shopping network.
"Holy Man" is lifeless to the point of inducing narcolepsy.
It didn't, and in all of "Holy Man" (well, in the hour I saw) not one scene has even an inkling of energy, spirit or laughs.

Hexapedia - Priest (via CobWeb/3.1 planetlab1.cs.virginia.edu)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
A priest or priestess is a holy man or woman who takes an officiating role in worship of any religion, with the distinguishing characteristic of offering sacrifices.
Celibacy is not required of priests in the Orthodox, Anglican or Episcopalian Churches, but Orthodox priests are not allowed to marry after their ordinations, for example if their wife dies.
The most significant liturgical acts reserved to priests are the administration of the Sacraments, including the celebration of the Mass (see also Eucharist), Holy Baptism and the Sacrament of Reconciliation, a rite of Repentance, also called "Confession".

Holy Man Movie Review by Anthony Leong
Instead, "Holy Man" is a poignant feel-good tale about a man allowing himself to be ruled by his heart, instead of his head.
Which, of course, brings him to the inevitable dilemma of choosing between what is best for his career, and what is best for his new friend, G. As I mentioned earlier, "Holy Man" starts off as one movie, and ends up being a better one.
Finally, what is perhaps the greatest problem with "Holy Man"-- as a comedy, it is not very funny.

"Holy Man" / a review from Christian Spotlight on the Movies
Holy Man contains some profanity; however, I found this film to be an interesting reflection of the world's changing value system.
...."Holy Man" simply espouses the New Age Religion, and it wraps that religion in humor, happiness, and help for all your troubles.
The New Age religion is portrayed as a panecea for all of your woes.

Cranky Critic® Movie Reviews: Holy Man
In the case of Holy Man, Murphy also demonstrates the ability to work and play well with others, in this case with Jeff Goldblum, who is the real star of the movie and delivers a performance as close to broad comedy as anything Cranky can remember of Goldblum's career.
It isn't that the man can't play big (he's held his ground with dinosaurs, fer cryin' out loud) it's just that the basic character we've seen him build roles on usually has a very dry (some would call it totally oblivious) humor.
Murphy so underplays this role as a "holy man on a journey" (to only God knows where) that he is merely the enabler of a number of situations that are funny as individual gags.

 'Holy Man'
Funny, no. The best thing I can report about "Holy Man" is that it is a warm-hearted and kind of cute love story that reminds us that people who need people are the luckiest people in the world.
It's obvious what the greeting-card simplistic "Holy Man" is trying to say, but it's less clear what it's trying to be.
At this point, "Holy Man" seems as if it wants to imitate "Network" or "The Truman Show" and say something about consumerism as religion or television as ersatz reality, but its satiric bite is toothless and random, nipping hither and yon at modern society but drawing no blood.

But holy ones who have given up the world are not supposed to become too attached to one village or supporter.

Holy Man is touted as a comedic vehicle for the cinematically challenged Eddie Murphy.
Holy Man, now out on video, is the story of a man (Eddie Murphy) on his own personal pilgrimage who interrupts his journey to help a slick sales executive (Jeff Goldblum)currently experiencing a downslide in his career with a home shopping network.
Goldblum reprises his neurotic performances of the past, but is allowed, in Holy Man, to move and grow with this roll.

Holy Man could have been a stellar satire in the tradition of Frank Capra, George Stevens, or Preston Sturges.
Their good intentions shine through, however, and while it's easy to appreciate Eddie Murphy's attempt to shift his career in a more substantial direction, Holy Man delivers some pointed criticism of commercialism and its deadening effect on spiritual well-being.
To its credit, Holy Man occasionally achieves a delicate balance of comedy and commentary, and receptive viewers will be grateful, at a time when crude comedies rule the box office, that someone bothered to try.

Like most of Holy Man’s shallow concepts and anemically developed ideas of Holy Man, the character of G is a fuzzy platitude, little more than TV sitcom fodder.
Ricky’s eye is uncritically focused on the medium and oblivious to the message, the sensations of his brief attention span fueled by ratings and ten-minute segments, his values determined by expedience and the bottom-line.

EDDIE MURPHY plays a happy, generous and charismatic man whose spiritual pilgrimage is temporarily interrupted by his meeting Ricky and Kate.
A lightweight, but enjoyable enough diversion, "Holy Man" offers some decent laughs and occasional touching moments, but isn't the laugh-fest most are probably expecting after seeing the film's promotional commercials.
While one can't fault the film for not living up to its advertising campaign (different creative entities usually handle the two), it's certainly not as funny as it should be or could have been given the premise.

Chapter 2 Holy Man, Hoax or Fiend
From Quarles’ perspective, Turner was not a practical man; he did not know how to prepare for an "insurrection." Waiting for a "sign from on high" was not how a reasonable leader should have directed his energies.
Gross and Bender, from a literary point of view, stood hardly in awe that Turner raised himself up from the pits of hell that was slavery against great opposition to a pinnacle of renown and a measure of respect for his Christian manhood.
Was he insurrectionist, revolutionary, fiend, or holy man? To respond adequately to this question, we must follow his development in its religious context.
