Relics that are claimed to be the Holy Nails with which Christ was crucified are objects of veneration among some Christians.
When Helena, mother of Constantine the Great discovered the True Cross in Jerusalem, the legend was told by and repeated by Sozomen and Theodoret that the Holy Nails had been recovered too.
One of the nails is said to have come to rest in the Iron Crown of Lombardy.

The Holy Lance by Master Richard the Poor of Ely Actually, I should be calling this article "The Holy Lances", since there are a number of relics bearing that name.
It seems the Holy Lance was buried under one of the churches in Antioch.
In 1938, along with the Austrian Crown Jewels and other insignia of the Holy Roman Empire, it was hidden in an air-raid shelter in Nuremberg where it survived both the plundering of the Nazis and the bombing of the RAFwe.

During the excavation, an old cistern was discovered, in which the early Christians had hidden three crosses, three or four crucifixion nails and the sign that had been nailed to the cross proclaiming Christ as King of the Jews (known as the Title).
According to tradition, nails were driven through the hands and feet of Jesus during the crucifixion.
Since 1311 this crown was used for the coronation of the Holy Roman emperors and of Napoleon as the King of Italy in 1805.

NAILS is a church-based project whose mission, according to NAILS board member and Cumberland Pastor,Morton Harris of the First Presbyterian Church, is to "repair the homes of needy homeowners so that they can stay in their home as long as possible." Harris' own parish sponsors groups and allows them to stay at the church hall.
In conversations with the NAILS students, it became abundantly clear that this is literally a 'labor' of love.
The community of the Church of the Holy Cross was happy to sponsor the NAILS students and their mentors, and an open invitation exists for the summer 2005 picnic.
