Skopje, May 31 (MIA) - Holy Archbishopric Synod of the Macedonian Orthodox Church (MOC) rejected Tuesday the decision of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) Synod to recognize the so-called Ohrid Archbishopric of defrocked Bishop Zoran Vraniskovski.
The Holy Archbishopric Synod emphasizes that SOC has neither the canonic, nor the constitutional right to pass decisions regarding MOC since 1959, when it stated that SOC Constitution does not refer to eparchies and archbishops in Macedonia.
The Holy Archbishopric Synod thanks President Branko Crvenkovski, Prime Minister Vlado Buckovski, Macedonian Parliament, Macedonian Academy of Science and Arts, political parties and other institutions and organizations, media, and mostly the orthodox followers in the country and the diaspora for their support.

Opening the Synod, the Patriarch exhorted the Holy Synod to consider the future of the church in the new millennium.
The Patriarch had suspended the former archbishop Mor Nicholovos Zachariah on December 22, 2002, for deviating from his shalmootho (oath of obedience) to the Holy Apostolic See of Antioch and had appointed First Secretary to the Patriarch, H.E. Mor Yulius Kuriakose, as the interim archbishop.
Representatives of the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Orthodox Coptic Patriarchate of Egypt, the Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch, the Orthodox Church of Ethiopia, the Orthodox Church of Eritrea, and the Syrian Orthodox Church of Malankara were present at today's audience in Vatican.

Finally, the Holy Synod of Bishops once again calls on the officials of the Skoplje Government to renounce violence and free the Head of the Autonomous Archdiocese of Ochrid, imprisoned for upholding God’s justice.
Therefore, the Holy Synod of Bishops calls upon all institutions and organizations that have a legal responsibility or feel moral accountability in the sense of protecting human rights to intervene with the appropriate authorities in Skoplje in order to ensure the release of the innocent and unjustly imprisoned Archbishop Jovan as soon as possible.
