 | | The village stands 1½ mile S of Holywood station on the Glasgow and South-Western railway, this being 3½ miles NNW of Dumfries, under which there is a post office. |
 | | It held the churches and church-lands of Holywood, Dunscore, Penpont, Tynron, and Kirkconnel, whilst exercising jurisdiction over many lands in Nithsdale and East Galloway ; and, in 1618, with the property belonging to it, it was constituted a temporal barony in favour of John Murray of Lochmaben and his heirs. |
