The PSUC (Partit Socialista Unificat de Catalunya, Unified Socialist Party of Catalonia), was formed through the unification fo socialist and communist parties in Catalonia in 1936.
Homage to Catalonia is George Orwell 's personal account of the Spanish Civil War, written in the first person.
It should be noted that the following summary is based on a later edition of the book which contains some amendments that Orwell requested: two chapters (formerly chapters five and ten) describing the politics of the time were moved to appendices.

If you read Homage To Catalonia you would have seen that the Commies (usually the ones who DID NOT fight at the front) were the ones responsible for the imprisonment and execution of many of those fighting on the Republican side.
'Homage to Catalonia' differs from 'Nineteen Eighty-four' and 'Animal Farm' in that it is a non-fiction account of Orwell's actual experiences rather than an allegorical work of fiction or scientific romance novel.
Homage to Catalonia certainly provided a lot of inspiration for Orwell when he wrote 'Animal Farm' and 'Nineteen Eighty-four' and their are many aspects of the book which link closely to them.

It was the first time Orwell had ever been in a town where the working class "was in the saddle." He clearly conveys the sense of excitement of seeing the city under de facto workers' control, and the intensity of the revolutionary spirit which coursed through the people.

Homage to Catalonia is an ambitious co-production between the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Northern Stage, Teatre Romea, Forum Barcelona 2004 and MC93 Bobigny (which immediately calls to mind the old adage about too many cooks).
Directed by Josep Galindo and featuring a cast of ten British and Spanish actors, much of the dialogue is in Catalan and the stage is dominated by a huge screen on which newsreel footage of the Spanish Civil War is projected.
Suffice to say that the only non-newsreel image I carried away from this mess was the scene in which Orwell, shot through the neck by a sniper, compares the experience to that of being hit by lightning.
