A peptide was isolated and purified from sinus glands of the lobster, Homarus americanus, that was able to decrease circulating titers of ecdysteroids and increase the molt interval of eyestalk-ablated juvenile lobsters.
Sodium regulation in Homarus americanus changes from isoionic in Stage III to slightly hyperionic in Stage IV, and this is paralleled by improved survival of Stage IV lobsters in dilute media.
Removal of eyestalks of Homarus americanus on different days and molting stages during larval development revealed that eyestalk tissue is involved in the larval and postlarval molting rhythm and in preparation for metamorphosis as early as the end of Stage II.

Thermosensitivity of the Lobster, Homarus americanus, as Determined by Cardiac Assay.
It is generally accepted that crustaceans detect, and respond to, changes in water temperature, yet few studies have directly addressed their thermosensitivity.
In this investigation a cardiac assay was used as an indicator that lobsters (Homarus americanus) sensed a change in temperature.

The American lobster (Homarus americanus), found along the Atlantic coastline and Continental Shelf from Labrador to North Carolina, is the only species occurring in Canadian waters.
Although American lobsters seem able to survive in the Pacific, there is no evidence that any of the introductions has resulted in a reproducing population.

Fishery Bulletin: The effect of timing of tagging on streamer-tag recapture rates for American lobster - Homarus ...
Abstract--Streamer tags are commonly used to study the ecology and population biology of the American lobster (Homarus americanus).
Aquarium observations suggest that streamer tag loss, either through tag-induced mortality or tag shedding, is related to the molt stage of the lobster at the time of tagging, and the molting event itself.
Tagging methods to study the movement, growth, and exploitation rate for the American lobster (Homarus americanus) have improved over the last 70 years.

The American lobster (Homarus americanus Milne-Edwards, 1837) fishery in the southwestern Gulf of St. Lawrence (GSL) and for the entire Canadian Maritime Provinces has become the most economically important fishery of coastal communities.
Consequently, there is increasing interest by fishermen and the fishing industry to better understand the biology of the species and factors that may play a role in the fluctuations of landings, including possible lobster movements between lobster fishing areas (LFAs).

 US-Canada Lobster Dispute
Description In 1985 there was a large decrease in marine life in North Atlantic waters, especially the American lobster (Homarus americanus).
According to the Magnuson Act Amendment, it is illegal to ship, move, sell or buy Homarus americanus lobsters that are smaller than minimum size for harvesting determined through the American Lobster Fishery Management Plan.
From a scientific perspective, the U.S. further argued, size is a good measure of a lobsterþs maturity because the animals grow by shedding their external shells, or þmolting.þ American lobsters molt 20 to 25 times between hatching and sexual maturity, according to biologists.
