When Home Alone 3 came out late last year, Roger Ebert proclaimed that it was "better than the first two." That's not hard.
The result is Home Alone Lite, a watered down version of all the comic book excess that made the first movie one of the highest grossing holiday releases of all time.
Apparently, the people at Fox Home Entertainment think Home Alone 3 is in high demand or that people will pay for additional languages, of which this DVD has plenty two, French and Spanish (watch them for kicks, particularly when the thugs are getting their due!!).

 At-A-Glance Film Reviews: Home Alone 3 (1997)
Home Alone 3, featuring none of the actors or characters from the first two films, isn't all that bad.
The first half is, while unashamedly children's escapism prone to logical lapses the viewer is not supposed to question, better than anything the first films have to offer.
Suddenly, the escapism becomes a cartoon, the balance of escapism and slapstick swings in gross favor of the latter, and the film's charm is lost.

Cranky Critic® Movie Reviews: Home Alone 3
Home Alone Creator John Hughes proves that there is life in a franchise that, like the aforementioned cartoon, doesn't change much from episode to episode.
From the requisite "AARRGH!" and the grouchy elderly neighbor to the missing parents and thieves who break in to the vacant houses in the upper class suburb, it's all the same.
In the sneak Cranky attended, a thousand parents and kids were laughing hysterically as "intelligent" hi-tech thieves find themselves bamboozled by the homespun contraptions of a kid with way too much energy to be suffering from chicken pox, and way to young to know who Rube Goldberg was.

Culkin also starred in the highly popular sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), but by the time the franchise got around to Home Alone 3 (1997), the thrill -- and Culkin -- was gone.
Home Alone is the highly successful and beloved family comedy about a young boy named Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) who is accidentally left behind when his family takes off for a vacation in France over the holiday season.
Once he realizes they've left him "home alone," he learns to fend for himself and, eventually has to protect his house against two bumbling burglars (Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern) who are planning to rob every house in Kevin's suburban Chicago neighborhood.

 Filmtracks: Home Alone (John Williams)
Home Alone: (John Williams) It had been a while since John Williams had composed a score specifically aimed at children --if ever, really-- and when he accepted the assignment of Home Alone from his friend, director Chris Columbus, in 1990, it was an entirely new genre for the maestro.
Ever since Home Alone first won the hearts of audiences with an outstanding record-producing showing at the box office, Williams' score has been the highest standard for Christmas music from Hollywood.
Home Alone is an example of a film and score fitting like a perfect glove for a hand, with Williams' music successfully balancing the two sides of the film: the wacky, stupid comedy, and the heartfelt sense of family and religion at the holidays.

Now, I haven't seen Home Alone 4, a direct to video sequel featuring the original characters but different actors - and nor do I particularly want to - but I would hazard a guess that what we have in Home Alone 3 is not exactly a world away from this fourth installment.
Home Alone 3 is simply not the same kind of film as its predecessors, substituting genuine humour and emotion with unimaginative squirts and splats and some embarrassing schmalz.
Home Alone 3 is not so much a painfully bad piece of work as it is a disappointingly embarrassing one.

deseretnews.com - Movie review: Home Alone 3 | Deseret Morning News Web edition
Though it probably comes as no surprise to anyone, this entry in the "Home Alone" series (which now includes "101 Dalmatians" and "Flubber") is nothing more than a retread of the original.
The first "Home Alone" is still on the all-time Top 10 roster of cinematic moneymakers, and adapting that formula to every movie he touches seems to have taken over Hughes' life.
"Home Alone 3" is rated PG for violence, vulgarity, profanity and a partially nude poster.

Figures for home workers in the United States swing wildly from one million to 41 million, depending on how the category is defined.
In the transition to home offices, these burdens pass from the social system, where tasks are shared, onto the lap of individuals.
For when costs are not met up front in the home office, they are deducted, stealth fashion, from the unbudgeted and unbillable time of the home worker.

 Home Alone 3 | The A.V. Club
As it so often is, that part of the brain—the same part that learned to discriminate the tasty berries from the poisonous ones and determine which species would kill you on sight—is right again.
As with almost all John Hughes-scripted films in recent years, Home Alone 3 displays a queasy mixture of sentiment and sadism, and as with almost all child actors of the mid- to late-'90s, Linz is truly terrible, and possesses so much hair that it looks as if he's wearing a modified Chewbacca mask.
While simply being worse than Home Alone 2 would already place this squarely in the ranks of the decade's worst movies, Home Alone 3 crosses the line into the unconscionable by including a wisecracking parrot and an elaborate bludgeoned-nutsack gag involving a trained pet mouse and a snowsuit.
