		The Armia Krajowa (Home Army) or AK functioned as the dominant Polish resistance movement in World War II in German-occupied Poland, which was active in all areas of the country from September 1939 until its disbanding in January 1945.
		Similarly, the main forces of the Red Army and the NKVD conducted operations against the AK partisans, even during or directly after the Polish Operation Tempest which was designed by the Poles to be a joint Polish-Soviet action against the retreating Germans.
		Tadeusz Piotrowski quotes Joseph Rotschild saying "The Polish Home Army was by and large untained by collaboration" and adds that "the honor of AK as a whole is beyond reproach".

		The Home Army, being a voluntary force, was, at the same time, both part of Polskie Siły Zbrojne (PSZ – or PAF – Polish Armed Forces), its high command located in exile, and the most important element of the Polish Underground State.

		Surrounded again at the end of May, part of it's strength managed to escape through the Prypec, escaping to the rear areas of the Red Army, where the commander of those that managed this effort was arrested, and the soldiers after being disarmed were forcibly conscripted to the Polish Communist Army under Gen.
