		There were four Irish Home Rule Bills in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, to reverse parts of the Act of Union 1800.
		The bill of 1914 was opposed by Edward Carson who had helped to raise the Ulster Volunteer Force to prevent it, and was instrumental in organising of the Ulster Covenant.

		The Federation had asked that the bill be amended to stipulate that referendums, if defeated, could only be reconsidered during primary or general elections so as not to burden taxpayers with the cost of a special election.

		The Legislature passed a bill Monday night that could give counties limited home rule to pass ordinances regulating nuisances such as overgrown weeds, the dumping of litter or too much noise coming from a rural racetrack.
		Albert Hall, D-Gurley, opposed the bill for much of the session and said he was concerned that in counties with a dominant city that commissioners from an urban area would be making decisions that effect life in rural areas.
		He said he is all right with the final version of the bill because an amendment was added to require a four-fifths vote by commissioners in Madison County to implement the provisions of the legislation.
