 LYMAN HUNT of Douglass Township, Montcalm County, MI
He was a native son of Michigan, who was born on a pioneer farm in Kalamazoo County on May 26, 1843 to Aaron and Emmaline (Card) Hunt, both natives of Vermont who lived north of Buffalo at Clarence Hollow, New York.
Instead of accompanying the family to Montcalm County, he went to Rockford and was engaged there as well as Grand Rapids in lumber mills until the death of his father, after which he joined his family in their home in Douglass Township where he resided until his death in 1929.
On December 12, 1871, Lyman Hunt was united in marriage to Rizpah Ann Auten, who was also born in Kalamazoo County, Michigan, whose parents, Nathaniel and Nancy (Lepper) Auten, natives of New York had settled in Montcalm County on August 25, 1870.

In August 1870, my father came to Douglass Township and bought 40 acres of land situated just across the road from the Entrican Schoolhouse, on what is now the John Clement farm.
The Aldrich home was just the other side of the schoolhouse and ours was just on this side, and often at recess time Agnes Aldrich and I would go to either her home or mine to visit our mother's cookie jars.
Aaron Hunt set out the first orchard in Douglass Township and Mary Hunt and Jacob Miller were the first people to be married in Douglass Township.

Some records are there because they had family in that county and when they visited they stayed for long periods due to transportation, and a major life event would take place such as births, deaths, illness.
Another reason is a family lived on the edge of Gratiot Co. and were closer to a larger town in the next county, and went there to register a vital event.
