Movie Review for Home on the Range - 2004-04-02
Home on the Range marks the end of an era, declared as Disney’s last traditionally hand drawn 2-D animated movie.
Home on the Range is no different here, truly carrying the style and feel of a western.
What Home on the Range does offer are the things Walt always thought were important: Some interesting characters and a cute story line, which in the end adds up to be a fun little film.

And Disney's decision to cast Roseanne Barr as the lead celebrity voice in Home on the Range is either genius or an inexplicable misstep.
Sure, many of them were funny because they were parodies or self-consciously poking fun at the movie itself, and easily half of them had already been served up in movie trailers, but a laugh is a laugh.
Home on the Range might be worth a mall matinee, but otherwise, I'd wait for it to be broadcast on ABC, probably sooner rather than later.

Filmtracks: Home on the Range (Alan Menken)
Home on the Range: (Alan Menken) Oh, the woes of Alan Menken.
The pace of the rhythms, the whistling in the background, and quotations taken from famous Western pieces of past generations are thrown at the viewer/listener in a rapid-fire format consistent with a modern 76-minute film, though.
Unfortunately, Home on the Range may not have been the best of films with which to make a comeback, but it does show that Menken has the potential to dazzle us with another major dramatic animated music if the right film arises at Disney and is presented to him.

Slater wrote the lyrics for the songs in “Home on the Range,” and they have the same creative, silly flavor for which Howard Ashman was known.
While “Home on the Range” is your standard big-budget Disney animated film, it has a very punchy attitude - an attitude that I haven’t seen since “Lilo and Stitch.” It doesn’t take itself too seriously and has a lot of fun with the characters.
The strength of “Home on the Range” is how much it throws at you at one time.

Disney's animated Home on the Range--about three cows who turn to bounty hunting in order to save their farm--further illustrates how unimaginative Disney animation has become with yet another tired, albeit kid-pleasing, formula.
Under Will Finn and John Sanford's direction, Home on the Range has a heartening message of hearth and home, decent performances, and nothing blatantly wrong with the story structure, which hits the right marks despite being a tad too cutesy.
All in all, Home on the Range's animated cow shenanigans should easily lasso the kiddies, but more than a few discouraging words could be said about its dull animation.

“Home on the Range” is the kind of movie that will have the adults, especially those with kids (and, who may not have much choice), watching it again and again to get all of the jokes not meant for little children comprehension.
This is true “fun for all ages” and I give “Home on the Range” an A-.
Disney's CEO, Michael Eisner, has declared traditional cel animation dead, but there is plenty of life in the exuberant "Home on the Range." While the kids get to watch loads of colorful animal characters engage in all sorts of adventures, adults will be tickled by loads of in jokes.

At one point in Disney's Home on the Range, a character wearily admits, "I'm just plumb out of ideas." Unfortunately, the same can be said for the Disney animators, who dip into their increasingly worn bag of tricks for this folksy effort and come up pretty empty-handed.
When her beloved owner's ranch is snatched up by the yodeling outlaw Alameda Slim (Randy Quaid), Maggie finds a new home at the "Patch of Heaven" dairy farm run by Pearl (Carole Cook).
Whatever the reason, Home on the Range is an extremely routine entry in the Disney animated canon.

This movie is like the typical final season of many a great athlete who has stayed in the game too long, a halfhearted bid for money that does little to recall the spectacular feats of spectatorial glory with which we were once so enamored.
But the dialogue in Home on the Range is often so howlingly bad that it’s a good thing the actors were behind the scenes -- you’d hate to see the looks of embarrassment on their faces.
Home on the Range may be a bit jokier than either of those titles, but the same lazy, half-finished narrative effect could’ve still been achieved within the confines of a well-animated picture.

`Home on the Range', Disney's 44th and final hand-drawn animated movie, is a surprisingly good one.
Home on the Range may not be a classic compared to previous Disney masterpieces such as `Beauty and the Beast', `Aladdin', `Little Mermaid' or `The Lion King', but it has its own charm.
I suppose the main reason this movie didn't do very well in the box office was because, considering it is the last hand drawn animated movie by Disney, the audience were expecting a movie that ended Disney's animation career with a big bang.

DISNEY'S "Home on the Range" is Hollywood's last major traditionally animated movie - there are no more on the drawing boards - so it's doubly disappointing that this musical about singing cows is so udderly mediocre.

A few year's back Disney could not miss being at the top of the box office charts, but other than Finding Nemo last year and their Toy Story films, which all were made with their one-time partner Pixar, Disney seems to be falling further and further down the line.

Home On The Range London Movie Review
Home on the Range is a traditionally animated 2-D cartoon adventure and, if the publicity department at the House of Mouse are to be believed, it’s set to be the last of its kind as they’ll be concentrating on Finding Nemo-type 3-D toons from now on.
Frankly, this seems unlikely, especially if Home on the Range turns out to be a decent-sized hit.
In short, Home on the Range won’t be troubling the box office records of Toy Story or Finding Nemo but it’s an enjoyable cartoon that’s both simple enough for younger children to enjoy and funny enough for adults not to resent being dragged to see it.
