	Archived: State Regulation of Private Schools - Introduction
		State of Nebraska, 262 U.S. Similarly, in 1927, the Supreme Court held a Hawaiian law unconstitutional that regulated the teachers, curriculum, and textbooks of private language schools and placed control of the schools in public officers.
		The state court determined that the standards were "so pervasive and all-encompassing that total compliance with each and every standard by a non-public school would effectively eradicate the distinction between public and non-public education, and thereby deprive these appellants of their traditional interest as parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children".
		While the parameters of state regulation of private schools is to a large extent shaped by our federal constitution, it should also be noted that federal law on occasion directly influences the operations of private schools.

	State Regulation of Private Schools - Indiana
		Private school buses are regulated by the Indiana School Bus Committee that governs the design and operation of all school buses used for the transportation of school children.
		Home educated students can participate, with the approval of the superintendent or the school board, in public school educational activities.
		Home school students may not take ISTEP+ or any other public school administered test unless they are enrolled in a public school for at least one period a day.

	98-2 Nursing Home Regulation [WI]
		For a group of homes that we identified as having a relatively large number of citations for violations of state or federal regulations, the average period between surveys was 10.1 months; for a group of homes we identified as having a record of relatively serious citations, the average period between surveys was 9.2 months.
		Based on comparisons with other states, it is difficult to conclude whether Wisconsin's surveyors are appropriately enforcing the federal regulations because other states' practices have been inconsistent over time, nursing home quality may differ among the states, and changes in citation rates may differ over time as a result of changing conditions within homes.
		In FY 1995-96 and FY 1996-97, nursing homes appealed 192, or 60.6 percent, of the 317 state statements of deficiency issued, and 153, or 67.7 percent, of the 226 state forfeitures assessed.

	State Regulation
		State government requires ride owner/operators to register rides and submit paperwork certifying that rides meet industry standards and applicable state regulations.
