		Latacz was the third recipient of the Homer Award, the first being Christian Wolf and the second Yasar Kemal.
		Ulgur Gokhan, the mayor of Canakkale, the nearest major town to the site of ancient Troy, said that Latacz had been awarded the prize in recognition of his research and study on Troy and in particular for his work on ancient languages.
