The Apostles split as a group in 1990, immediately forming Academy 23.
Among their many releases on cassettes, LPs, EPs, singles and compilations, the band contributed their song "Forbidden Love" to the J.D.s Top Ten Homocore Hit Parade Tape cassette tape put out by the seminal queercore zine, J.D.s, released in 1990, which also included the song "The Boy Next Door" from Academy 23.
In 1994 Andy Martin and Dave Fanning changed the name of the group to Unit and, with two other group members, continue to record.
