Homophilia, meaning "love of the same," is a term developed to emphasize the emotional component of same-sex love and to de-emphasize the sexual aspect suggested by the word "homosexuality." Homophilia can refer to both nongenital and genital relationships.
The term homophile was adopted by the post-World War II political movements that developed in Europe and America to increase understanding of gay men and lesbians and to combat social and legal persecution.
Precursors of the gay liberation movement that flowered in the late 1960s and 1970s, the homophile movements adopted a strategy in which homosexuals were urged to accommodate themselves as much as possible to the heterosexual norms of society.

Homophilia is attraction and love between people of the same gender.
Unlike the related term homosexuality, the term homophilia does not assume sex as a part of the relationship.
Because most people so closely link love and sex, the term homophilia is rarely used, while the term homosexuality is in general use.

A group of College Students, in a republican club, recently did another one of those reverse protests where they wore "Boycott Homophilia" (That's the "Love of Homosexuality" for those who went to Publik Skule) and had a complaint filed aghainst them by campus liberals.
This is their response letter they have sent me - they name of the university has been deleted at their request per a gag order.
If it were not for this psychological consideration, I clearly would be very angry about what would then constitute a reckless and stupid professional insult.

Geoffrey Gorer, Man to Man (1961)
Paedophiliac (paedophilia) is already in the vocabulary for the minor form, the child-molesters; this would appear to be considered a grossly pathological condition in all societies of which we have record and does not call for discussion.
In contrast to the pederast and the pathic, it is very hard to find examples or analogues of homophilia in societies outside the Judeo-Christian tradition; and there do not seem to be many examples within it before the last century, as far as the literary evidence goes.
Although the aetiology of any of the homosexualities is obscure, it seems likely that among the antecedent conditions of homophilia are castration anxiety (in the psycho-analytic sense of the term) and the absence of a model of appropriate male behaviour at significant periods of the young boy's development.

"Homophilia" points to a very important aspect of modern gayness - its support of a wide array of same-sex emotional relationships, with a an equally wide degree of sexual expression.
What these studies have found is that homophilia is a central aspect of modern gayness, in relationships between men whether sexually expressed or not.
Since "gay" in modern use covers "homophilia" as well as "homosexuality", I wish to continue to claim that placing the study of philia and amicita in the past exclusively under the sign of "friendship" and excluding from the sign of "gayness" is not only unnecessary but misleading.

 Bryn Mawr Classical Review 97.9.16
Since Eros leads to both philotes and philia, for the Greeks he is an important liminal and educational figure who, through institutionalized homophilia, initiates adolescents of both sexes to adulthood by forging the bonds of trust that form the basis of two fundamental social institutions: the polis and the oikos.
While archaic erotic verse seeks, through homophilia, to lead an adolescent to philia, given the poet's general lack of success, it often serves instead to sublimate the unattainable joy of Eros through the esthetic pleasure of verse.
Chapter 5 treats Eros in the masculine realm of the polis where homophilia leads to the formation of political ties and the transmission of fundamental social values through inverted, ritualized sexual behavior in the symposium and gymnasium, topics that have been fairly well explored.

Society’s denial of male affection creates fear, jealousy - THE DAILY BRUIN ONLINE   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
As hemophilia is a physical health problem as caused by a lack of blood-clotting factor, homophilia is mental health problem caused by a lack of male affection.
Homophilia exists because of our culture's relentless refusal to allow males to be emotional or feel the full range of humanness.
These sufferers of homophilia act out with violence and hatred toward males who do obtain and enjoy male affection, developing an "if I can't have it, nobody else can either" mentality.

The administrator, Leif Liljeström, says that his purpose is to preach the gospel and win people for Jesus, and that the truth is needed to awake people.
Among the statements that led to the verdict were the following: "The modern homophilia is the source and engine behind the AIDS-epidemic", and "Surely, AIDS is a punishment from God against sodomy".
The view that there should be a "death penalty for homosexual acts" has also been uttered in some messages by a guest, but these were repudiated by Leif Liljeström directly in the forum.

Reno News and Review Letters - September 29, 2005
That's what's known in logic as begging the question--assuming the truth of the proposition to be proved and then basing your argument on the assumption that it's already proved.
On the contrary, I believe that the homophiles should be required to prove that homophilia should be considered acceptable.
For openers, I challenge her or any other homophile to answer this question: If there were no other reason to oppose homophilia, why isn't the mere fact that the push for it is coming from the same moronic liberals who made the 20th century the bloodiest century in recorded history sufficient by itself?

Wilber, of course, doesn't use the terms "gayness," "homophilia," "heterophilia," "same-directed love," "other-directed love," "heterosexism," or "homophobia," in the same way that I do.
For example, I do not simply define homophilia as love for a member of the same sex; rather, I see it as a deep universal structure implicit in all manifestations of love, specifically as same-directed.
In other words, when we love another person, our love is both an expression of love for sameness and for differences; that which we love that is the same is what I call homophilia or gayness.

Seattle Catholic - Homophilia: Killing Fields In Denial
In today's world of thoroughly corrupted language, "homophilia" would take its place as the opposite of "homophobia." We find that those who cannot function with truth, regularly inventing words, and assigning them meanings, much the same as the fraudulent "Wizard of Oz" with his smoke and mirrors.
As a vivid example, "homophobia" is a meaningless word from the literal standpoint, but is used as a rhetorical weapon against any who dare hold reservations and/or repugnance to the homosexual lifestyle — lifestyle, referring to same sex sexual activity.
They are the rotten fruit that can do nothing but corrupt and the American Catholic church is now well into reaping the whirlwind that these many have sown.
