Basics of Design Engineering - Engineering Materials - Plastics and properties - ACETAL
Melting points of the homopolymers are higher, and they are harder, have higher resistance to fatigue, are more rigid, and have higher tensile and flexural strength with generally lower elongation.
Homopolymer grades are available that are modified for improved hydrolysis resistance to 180 °F, similar to copolymer materials.
Homopolymer acetals have high resistance to organic solvents, excellent dimensional stability, a low coefficient of friction, and outstanding abrasion resistance among thermoplastics.

Sheeting made from polymers of ethylene and propylene, and its use - US Patent 5622760   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
such that 5 to 20 parts by weight of the homopolymer of ethylene and 5 to 40 parts by weight of the ethylene-propylene copolymer are added to 100 parts by weight of the homopolymer of propylene.
The term "homopolymer", in the sense of the invention, is intended to mean that this polymer consists essentially of ethylene or of propylene.
In general, a "homopolymer" in the sense of this invention includes a polymer containing, along with ethylene or propylene, up to about 10 mole-percent of one or several comonomers, particularly isoprene, 1,3-butadiene, ethylene (in the case of a propylene homopolymer), propylene (in the case of an ethylene homopolymer), butene, hexene, and octene or their isomers.

The improved thermal and chemical stability of the copolymer versus the homopolymer is a result of randomly distributed oxyethylene groups.
Once the chain of the homopolymer is ruptured by such an attack, the exposed polyformaldehyde ends decompose to formaldehyde and acetic acid.
The acetate end cap of the homopolymer, however, is readily hydrolyzed in the presence of alkalis, causing significant polymer degradation.

 OhioLINK ETD: Adedeji, Adeyinka
It is well-established that block copolymers A-b-B, whose segments are incompatible, can function as emulsifiers in blends of homopolymers of A and B. In such blends, the volume fractions of the blend constituents determine the morphology; and the emulsifying power is primarily dictated by the molecular weight ratio of homopolymer to block copolymer.
However, when there is exothermic mixing between one of the block copolymer segments and one homopolymer, the role of the molecular weight ratios becomes less significant, since the competition between exothermic and endothermic interactions can strongly influence the morphology.
In ternary A/A-b-B/B or A/X-b-B/B blends, the tendency of the block copolymer to migrate to the interface (interfacial activity) depends on incompatibility of homopolymer A with block B and between homopolymer B and block A or X (Nχ scAB and Nχ scBA or Nχ scBX, respectively).

Asymmetric Miscibility in Random Copolymer/Homopolymer Blends: Monomeric Size and Polarity
This asymmetric miscibility of a random copolymer with its related homopolymers is not predicted by the Copolymer Effect theory, and its underlying causes are unclear in the absence of strong intermolecular interactions.
The preferential miscibility of a copolymer with one of its related homopolymers is of interest as current theoretical models of polymer miscibility do not predict this behavior.
Thickness fluctuations were particularly problematic for system IV due to the extremely low molecular weights of the homopolymer used and the high solution concentrations required to produce films of an appropriate thickness.

This approach is based on the "coloring" in two "colors" monomeric units of a homopolymer taken in some well-defined conformation (globular conformation1,2,4), conformation of adsorbed chain2,3), etc.4)), depending on the spatial position of the unit in this "parent" conformation.
To prepare the primary sequences we have taken some particular conformation of a usual homopolymer globule and assigned two different types A and B to monomeric units which differ by their spatial positions inside that globule due to some of criteria.
Main steps of the sequence design scheme for protein-like copolymers: (a) homopolymer globule; (b) the same globule after "coloring" procedure; (c) protein-like copolymer in the coil state.

Stated very simply, the large chainlike molecules are formed by hooking together short-chain molecules of chemicals (monomers: mono = one, mer = unit) in a reaction known as polymerization (poly = many).
When units of a single monomer are hooked together, the resulting plastic is a homopolymer, such as polyethylene, which is made from the ethylene monomer.
