Homozygote - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A homozygote's cells are diploid or polyploid and have the same alleles at a locus (position) on homologous chromosomes.
When an organism is referred to as being homozygous for a specific gene, it means that it carries two identical copies of that gene for a given trait on the two corresponding chromosomes (e.g., the genotype is AA or aa).

 The Genetic Limits of Evolution
A pure-breed is a genetic homozygote, or an individual which no longer possesses alternative variations for the genes in question.
Animals evolve because nature selects from a pool of alleles, and the resulting homozygotes are genetically pure bred for the features which gave the organisms the specific adaptation.
The variety of breeds that was later isolated from the wolf lineage appears to have accumulated gradually because we eliminated the natural selection which previously kept the genome pure of this variability.

Homozygote definition - Medical Dictionary definitions of popular medical terms
Homozygote: A person who has two identical forms of a particular gene, one inherited from each parent.
For example, a girl who is a homozygote for cystic fibrosis (CF) received the CF gene from both of her parents and therefore has CF.
The opposite of a homozygote is a heterozygote, a person who has two different forms of a particular gene.

The concentration of amino acids is much larger in the homozygote samples of seeds and stalks, and a similar trend can be seen when looking at the total amino acid content of each plant genotype.
The heterozygote plants have a concentration that is in between the wild type and the homozygote, this suggests that only one allele is necasary, or that chomosome 5 may compensate for the lack of an allele.
The homozygote plant that lacked chromosome 4 PEPCK was much taller than the others.

 The Basis of Dominance (2/4)
Much later, Haldane14 drew on his investigations into the evolution of industrial melanism (in which the melanic form is both advantageous and dominant) and suggested that dominance might have evolved from a low level, conceivably by a Fisher-type process, concomitantly with the spread of the allele.
The first is that it does not explain why, in the heterozygous state, the presence of a strongly deleterious allele is not as apparent as the presence of a weak allele.

Many axons in homozygote MG muscles showed a discontinuous, fragmented appearance of immunolabeling after synergist denervation, whereas axons in control muscles retained a continuous labeled appearance.

 The Basis of Dominance (3/4)
If this represents the activity of an enzyme in the normal homozygote, then the point aa represents an abnormal homozygote in which the enzyme activity is entirely lacking, and the point labelled Aa represent the heterozygote.
Note that the heterozygote phenotype is much closer to that of the normal homozygote than to that of the abnormal homozygote.
Now the heterozygote phenotype is very close to halfway between the homozygote phenotypes, as it was assumed to be in early models.

To evaluate the association of TNFB NcoI polymorphism with SLE in the Korean population, we investigated the frequencies of the TNFB and HLADRB1 alleles in 281 controls and 97 SLE patients, including 56 patients with nephritis and 41 patients without nephritis.
RESULTS: The genotypic frequency of TNFB*2 homozygote was significantly increased in patients with SLE compared with controls(RR = 2.36, P = 0.011).
However, the increased frequency of TNFB*2 homozygote was apparently increased in nephritis group (RR = 2.79, P = 0.035), whereas the significance of TNFB*2 homozygote was weakened in non-nephritis group.
